The event celebrates Freedom Day and the diverse culture and cuisine of the African diaspora. #Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Texas. The African Diaspora, marked by the Transatlantic Slave Trades, led to the development of unique culinary traditions in the Americas and Caribbean. Congratulations to our Youth Speak Up for Equity & Justice Showcase Winner, Enyelis Reyes, a student at Rhode Island College! Her piece honored her Afro-Latina roots, her ancestors and the women that came before her. Thanks to The MUSE Foundation of Rhode Island, Inc for sponsoring this Prize.
