Therapy dogs can play a significant role in helping athletes maintain their physical and mental well-being by offering a calming presence and helping to lower cortisol levels. That's why the MUSC PAWS team was excited to accept the College of Charleston Women’s Soccer Team's invitation to partner with them this season. Truman, a three-year-old Golden Retriever, made his debut on Sunday, meeting the team in the locker and training rooms before the game and hanging out on the sidelines to keep the team calm in the South Carolina August heat. Our team is proud to engage with the community, and this partnership is sure to be a highlight for both the athletes and our therapy dogs. September is Women in Medicine Month—a time to celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of women in health care. At MUSC, we're featuring the voices and stories of our remarkable women in medicine all month long. Today, we're spotlighting Dr. Ribal Al Aridi, MUSC Health Florence Endocrinologist. "My favorite part of practicing endocrinology is that it integrates the fundamentals of medicine, such as history-taking and physical exams, with the latest technologies and testing methods. This combination allows for a comprehensive and personalized approach to patient care. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the immediate impact on a person’s health, whether it's managing blood sugar levels or regulating thyroid function, among other things." Dr. Al Aridi is also the MUSC Internal Medicine program director and teaches clinical medicine at Medical University of South Carolina. When she isn't busy providing personalized, compassionate patient care, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and traveling.
