Patients and caregivers often receive payment to help manage clinical trial- related hardships. But for Americans on public assistance, reportable income may threaten to disqualify them for programs such as SNAP and Medicaid. Many communities that aren’t represented in the drug development process are kept out of clinical research by an unintentional dynamic caused by our tax rules. Choosing to participate could be the same as giving up access to benefits they rely on. Mural Health is calling on Congress to add a gross income exclusion for all payments made to clinical trial participants. The exclusion would also remove reporting requirements that prevent the ~90 million Americans (~27% of the population) enrolled in a public assistance program from participating in clinical research. Our bill is gaining momentum! Thank you to The STARR Coalition for supporting The Harley Jacobsen Act (H.R. 7418), Mural Health's proposed legislation to exclude ALL payments in ALL clinical trials for ALL participants from being treated as taxable income. Learn more about our bill here: https://lnkd.in/eaMy25TA Sign the petition from The STARR Coalition here: https://lnkd.in/esmX4WHG #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #patients #caregivers
Clinical research is a public necessity and those who contribute are volunteering for a crucial public service. So, why are we making it harder for people to contribute? The Harley Jacobsen Clinical Trial Participation Income Exemption Act is a bi-partisan bill seeking to?exclude all payments to participants in clinical trials from being treated as taxable income. Please learn more and help support this important bill at https://chng.it/MsbgPPJL5v

Prepaid debit cards are taking money from the pockets of clinical trial participants. Were you aware? Lately, we’ve been hearing participant payment vendors talk about the importance of financial neutrality for clinical trial participation. But through their card fees, these vendors are actually preventing it. Card fees, such as inactivity fees ($3-$6.95 per month after 90 days of inactivity), card replacement fees (up to $7 for physical cards), ATM inquiry fees ($0.25-$1.5 per inquiry), and others, take money directly from the stipends and reimbursements sponsors provide to participants. This is why Mural Health offers various payment methods, including the first prepaid card in the clinical research industry with NO FEES! "I was dismissed by doctors for a good two years. It all started when I was 43 and experiencing frequent sinus infections. New symptoms kept appearing, including a very dry eye. I had been a contact lens wearer for 30 years and?suddenly I couldn’t wear them anymore. I felt exhausted and had a gut feeling that something was very wrong. I went to a few doctors and they blamed hormones and allergies. I had an enlarged lymph node in my neck, and for that, they blamed sinus infections. As to the lump I felt in my abdomen, they said it was likely a hernia. Part of me really wanted to believe they were right and that nothing was wrong. But I just knew the doctors were wrong. I eventually took my husband to some of my appointments; he was shocked at the way the doctors treated me."
