Helping to unify and strengthen community-owned utilities since 1928
关于我们
We're the state association representing the interests of the 81 community owned electric utilities in Wisconsin. We've been providing safety services, leadership and management training, advocacy, and member support since 1928. Collectively, the state's public power utilities distribute more than 11 percent of the electricity in Wisconsin and most have century-old roots serving their communities. Municipal utilities operate on a not-for-profit basis overseen by a local governing board composed of local citizens and elected officials.

Commissioner Marcus Hawkins spoke to our group of municipal utility and electric cooperative workers and shared insights about his first eight months on the job at Public Service Commission of Wisconsin during the Electric Operations Conference & Expo happening this week in Wisconsin Dells. We appreciated his time and the technical expertise he brings to his role ensuring Wisconsinites have safe, reliable, and affordable energy to power their lives.?

Today marks 96 years since a group of forward-thinking municipal utility managers came together to form what we know today as MEUW. On this day and always, we’re grateful not only for our current members and all the friends and supporters who keep our association going but also for the generation of leaders who laid a foundation that has sustained MEUW for nearly a century. In connection with our 96th anniversary, we recently launched an updated membership directory, which is linked from the footer on our website at www.meuw.org. Thanks to everyone who helps support our mission to unify and strengthen community-owned utilities! #ProudlyPublicPower

In recent weeks, there have been countless stories about the unsung heroes who are helping to restore power – and hope – to communities affected by hurricanes. We are proud to work with electric lineworkers from across our state. After a storm, while others are sheltering, lineworkers are in the elements, facing high winds, rain, and hazards, and working around the clock to get the power back on. It’s not just a job — it’s a mission, and every connection made helps families, hospitals, and businesses get back on their feet. One of our own – Jordan Fritche of Fennimore Utilities in southwest Wisconsin – is among nearly 50 #PublicPower workers from Wisconsin who’s been on the ground for almost a week now, working side-by-side with lineworkers from eight other states to help Lakeland, Florida, rebound from the effects of #HurricaneMilton. “It’s hands-on work with a meaningful purpose,” says Jordan, who began his utility career as an apprentice lineworker, and now does double duty as Director of Public Works and a Lineman where he lives. “Being a public power lineworker is a high-demand role and a great career path,” he confirms. “You get to make a direct impact on your community, while also having the opportunity to travel and make an impact following devastating weather events. There’s camaraderie and teamwork in everything we do.” If you or someone you know has what it takes, a career as a lineworker might be the role of a lifetime. These 47 Wisconsin #PublicPower workers have made their way to Lakeland, Florida, where they're helping the local electric utility restore service to tens of thousands of customers impacted by #HurricaneMilton. These folks represent 22 municipal power companies across the state. They left home for an unknown period of time to travel to a destination ravaged by strong winds, heavy rains, and flooding. They're doing dangerous and highly skilled work. We salute their sacrifice and give thanks for all the lineworkers from across the country who are helping to re-establish essential services.? ? Not pictured are the co-workers, family members, and loved ones who are helping to keep the lights on back at home. We're thankful for all of the folks who make #MutualAid possible. These are the moments when we're reminded how the worst brings out the best in everyone.?
