?? The Power of Community: Founders & Parents United ?? Last month we hosted our very first Mums Building Companies Building Companies event with Rare Founders and Google Cloud and it was nothing short of transformational. Now, we are excited to share a glimpse into the magic through this video taken by Marcus Grip which snapshots of the honest conversations, powerful panel discussions, and vibrant networking that made the day unforgettable. Bringing together 70 founders (who also happen to be mothers) showed us just how critical it is to change the narrative around being a parent and a founder. We tackled topics that hit home: ?? Funding while pregnant and breaking stereotypes. ?? The non-negotiable need for flexible working. ?? The realities of scaling a business alongside raising kids. ?? Mum guilt, burnout, and what redefining success really looks like. The key takeaway? You don’t have to do it alone. Building businesses and raising futures isn’t a solo act it takes a village. This event was proof that when founders and parents come together to share, learn, and support each other, we’re not just building companies we’re reshaping what success looks like for everyone. To our amazing speakers Gifty Enright, Elizabeth Willetts, Saasha Celestial-One and Rachel Carrell thank you for your wisdom and inspiration. Let’s keep this momentum going. Together, we’re proving that it is possible to build companies while raising the next generationand that we’re all the stronger for it. ?? ?? Check out the video below and let me know your favorite moment from the event! We couldn't have said it better ourselves.... Gifty Enright
If you want something done, give it to a working mum. We’re planners, multitaskers, and problem solvers. We get stuff done. Need a presentation written while making dinner? Done. Sorting out a school project while leading a meeting? Sorted. Working mums are the ultimate jugglers, balancing it all. But let’s be clear—this isn’t about glorifying burnout. It’s about recognising the incredible strength mums bring. We know how to prioritise, stay calm, and deliver. Flexible working isn’t just nice to have—it’s essential. It allows women to thrive at work and at home. Supporting working mums means supporting productivity, innovation, and inclusion. So next time you're stuck, remember—mums make it happen. Let’s celebrate, support, and value working mums everywhere. What’s your experience working with amazing career mums? Drop a comment—I’d love to hear your thoughts! ?? Repost if this resonates ? Female Founder Office Hours is BACK for Edition 1??3??!!! ?? 6 years and 12 editions later (??), we are excited to be launching applications for our next edition on Thursday, April 3rd ?? This time, however, we're doing things a little bit differently... instead of the opportunity to be matched with four investors for one-to-one meetings, each participating founder will be matched with SIX investors to discuss their tech idea, seek advice or pitch for investment We’ve increased the number of meetings by 50% because, let's be honest, stellar founders deserve nothing short of more opportunities ?? If you're a woman founder, or know any women founders out there that fit these criteria, please do apply/share with them: ?? Inception to Series A??? ?? Tech company ?? Europe HQ ??♀? Women-led Applications close on March 12th - so apply and read the full article via the links below ?? None of this would be possible without everybody supporting us in the background, so a massive thank you to our sponsor Microsoft for Startups (?? Anne-Claire Lo Bianco and Lora ANIS HANNA), the 190 investors taking the time outside of their day jobs to participate, and the rest of the Playfair team (Lucia Polverino, Anouska Moss, Felix Neubeck and Deanne Saunders) for making this happen ??

Do you really need that investor's money - or is chasing investor funding actually holding your business back? ?? The series takes founders through the funding decision-making journey, incuding: 1?? Understanding whether you can bootstrap or truly need to seek external funding. 2?? Options for funding that don't take your equity, such as loans and grants 3?? Seeking equity investment from angels or VCs and planning for due diligence Each session is stacked with a panel of experts from investors, loan providers, grant organisations, startup advisors. ?? The first webinar is 27 February, and you don't want to miss it. ?? Registration for the first two webinars is open now. Sign up at the links in the comments. "This was the best panel on fundraising I’ve been to." A bold statement to make, considering there is so many of these events around, but the feedback we had for our recent event was overwhelmingly positive. A few weeks ago, we hosted an incredible event for the Mums Building Companies community, diving into the realities of fundraising as a female founder. It was an open, honest, and refreshingly unfiltered conversation about what it actually takes to raise investment. From finding the right investors to structuring rounds, handling rejection, and creating FOMO, our panellists shared real, practical insights, not just the highlight reel. A huge thank you?our hosts at Playfair to our brilliant panellists:?Andrea Sinclair, Caroline Hughes, Clare Zhang and Holly Simmons And of course, thank our sponsors Nikki Wheeldon at VocoLab, Founders Capital Antonio Ribeiro at YurtleHatim Siyawala at Siya and Jamie Harford for making it all possible! Events like these remind me why community matters because when we bring the right people together, we all go further in this crazy journey of building a business, and raising the future generation! If you’re a founder who also happens to be a parent, and you want to connect with others on the same journey, come and join us. Let’s keep the conversation going. What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to fundraising? Drop it in the comments

8 years ago I had an idea. An idea based on my own lived experience of being a self-employed, #founder mum. What if you could find #flexible workspace + Pay-As-You-Go #childcare under one roof? ?? Turns out over 500+ #families in Central London felt the same ?? even BBC News thought it was a great idea ?? COVID killed this dream. The world got turned upside down. #freelancers had no income. Families left London and the future of the office was uncertain. But fast-forward to today, the data remains compelling… ?? Post-COVID, while the UK childcare sector offers some flexibility, a significant proportion of parents still report difficulties finding childcare options that fully meet their flexible needs, with around one third experiencing issues accessing sufficiently flexible childcare arrangements depending on their work schedules and location. ?? Since 2018, the number of freelancers (and in particular #mums) in the UK has been steadily increasing, with some regions showing growth of 25%+ ?? The cost of childcare for parents with children under two has increased by more than £2,000 a year since 2010, according to new analysis published by Trades Union Congress (The TUC) ?? Grazia UK reported on a “Quiet Quitting” trend - where many #workingparents are quietly decreasing their paid-for childcare, instead keeping the kids home whilst they work. So… wonderful world of LinkedIn - I’m asking you. Should this concept exist in the world? Flexible childcare that you can scale up or down depending on your work? A safe space filled with a community of #parents just like you? Exceptional childcare that doesn’t break the bank? ?? If you are a parent of a child under 3years… either a founder, a freelancer, self-employed, or even on #maternityleave and need some “me time” let me know your thoughts using the form below… https://lnkd.in/ea7Jqg4R Thank you ?? and for anyone running a freelance/founder community - I would love if you could share this survey with people! Emmie Faust , Sebastian Haire, Frankie Tortora, Lara Sheldrake, Astrid Limal, Francesca (Check) Warner, Kevin Withane (FRSA), Agata Leliwa Nowicka, Tamta Gamezardashvili, Matt Jonns, Lottie Unwin (she/her), Milly Tamati, James Roycroft-Davis, Mums Building Companies, Dads Building Companies, Nicola Telford and anyone else ?? Let’s build a childcare system that works for everyone ??

As you know I sit on the House of Commons Women and Equalities Select Committee and we have launched a call for evidence for an inquiry into female entrepreneurship. Select committee inquires tend to lead to reports that are submitted to government with recommendations to effect positive change. You can read the details and submit your evidence here by clicking the link below. The deadline is 14th March. Come on the regions…..make sure your voices are heard. ????
