Our community really came through! Multnomah County Animal Services thanks the community, including the media, for their incredible response to our plea for help last Friday. The number of people who came out and found their family pet significantly reduced our shelter population from critical levels over the weekend. While we are at a much more comfortable spot, animals continue to arrive at the shelter, and we still need your help. We encourage anyone considering adoption to take advantage of our February adoption special with reduced fees running through the end of the month. From Friday to Sunday, 49 animals were adopted: including 23 dogs, 16 cats, and 10 kittens. MCAS also took in 18 found dogs, 1 cat, and 4 kittens. There were also 6 owner surrendered dogs, 5 cats, and 6 kittens. Owners reclaimed 10 dogs, 1 puppy, 1 cat, and 2 kittens. 2 dogs were transferred out to partner shelters. As of Monday morning, February 10, the shelter was at 76% capacity for dogs, with 20 kennels open, and 54% capacity for cats, with 30 kennels open. If you are looking for a pet- we still have many wonderful animals and you can see their photos and read their bios at multcopets.org. Thank you for liking and sharing adoptable pets! Just a few examples of dogs available to adopt - Custard, Fidget, Toffee, and Galileo.

URGENT: Can you help find adoptable homes for dogs? After a nearly month-long surge in stray and surrendered dogs, Multnomah County Animal Services is urgently asking the community to help alleviate the overcrowding. Adopting a pet will open space and allow the shelter to continue providing the best care possible for all pets. “If you have been thinking about finding a family dog, we are here to help you meet them this weekend,’’ said Erin Grahek, Multnomah County Animal Services Director. “We have adoption counselors and volunteers ready to help and we have many wonderful animals waiting. This overcrowding is hardest on them.’’ The shelter is holding a Valentine Adoption Special all month, reducing adoption fees for dogs to $25 — plus licensing fees, and the long-term commitment and care needed for animal companionship. Happy Adoption Story: Abby and Tony (the Tiger) Abby and Tony the cats have adjusted to their new home after being adopted in December 2023. Sometimes it takes a little longer for cats like Abby to warm up and lean in to the pets. "I just wanted to let you know Abby and Tony (fka "Tony the Tiger) are doing well. Tony warmed up to his new humans within their first few weeks here. Abby took a bit longer to come out of her shell, and six whole months to let us pet her ... which it turns out she really enjoys! It's a joy to watch them play and we're so glad to have been able to bring them home together." - Amy Submit your happy adoption story or read more at multcopets.org! #MCASHappyAdoptions
