Always Keep Learning! When I was a young 18 year old kid going through the Marine Corps School of Infantry there was another Marine I got to know fairly well. We were both Platoon Guides and had a shared comraderie through that and spent most days on libo (free time) together in LA or San Diego. Chris was amazing. He could bench press 400 pounds, run 3 miles in 18 minutes, and passed the Recon qual first try. He also had a degree in Latin and Greek, had worked as “free ascending” rock climbing and extreme whitewater guide, and had played two years of world league football. (He had one helluva photo album.) I asked him how he was able to accomplish so much before he was 25 and he said his parents did let him watch TV. Obviously, he was an extreme example of someone who doesn’t say no to a challenge. His story has inspired me since then and I implore you to test your litations! Don’t leave this world without having fully lived! I see so many of my friends who in High School never thought they would go to college and now they are almost 50 and graduating with a 4.0. This is a photo we took last year on the Harvard Campus where I am working on a Master’s studying finance. Everyone says you can’t learn after 40. Here’s a secret, it’s actually easier when you are older!!! I don’t have the same photographic memory I had in my youth but I also don’t have the hyperactivity I had in my youth. I am maintaining a 3.9 GPA and never did THAT well before. I encourage you to push your boundaries. You will be amazed at what you can do if you just say yes to the challenge and have a positive mental attitude. In the 20 years since graduating law school I 1) became a certified Krav Maga leo instructor 2) became a certified welder 3) earned my multiengine rating as a private pilot 4)learned Spanish fluently 5) became an ABS Bladesmith apprentice 6) graduated from the Trial Lawyer’s College. I am not saying this to brag. I am nothing special. I am just willing to try. So if I can do it so can you. There was a gentleman who graduated one year ahead of me in law school. He was 81 and graduated with honors. It’s never too late!
