Productive day at the IAB and Alumni meeting in Kansas City! We had great discussions about the early successes of Generative AI in the industry and explored exciting opportunities for new applications. I was also able to share updates on our programs, including the significant recognition of our MS in Data Science and Analytics program, ranked No. 6 by Fortune for Best Online Master's in Data Science Programs in 2024. https://lnkd.in/g89hX--E Several key takeaways from our board members, particularly from the KC area, focused on the skills most in demand: soft skills, the ability to quickly learn, being problem solvers who can answer the "why," and of course, strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in data science. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of MU Institute for Data Science & Informatics continuing its efforts to provide training in emerging technologies for both alumni and industry professionals. This aligns perfectly with our mission and our ongoing efforts through MU Extension's Career Accelerator, which offers training in the latest data science and AI technologies for working professionals. I also had the pleasure of sharing news about an exciting, upcoming quantum computing initiative at Mizzou that has the potential to greatly impact the industry. A Planet Labs workshop was hosted at Mizzou (October 10th, 2024) as a Taylor Geospatial Institute(TGI) consortium campus. Dr. Tim Haithcoat of Masters of Data Science and Analytics at MU Program working with colleagues from MU’s Research Office, MORAP, Geography, and Agriculture collaborated to support and extend this TGI sponsored Planet Lab workshop across the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The Workshop offered comprehensive information on the earth observation datasets and analytical tools available through TGI’s partnership with Planet Labs. Participants benefited from discussions of Planet Lab's use cases, technical hands-on training on utilizing satellite imagery, as well as gaining insights from others who are leveraging Planet’s data. Over 75 faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates involved in research related to?remote sensing?in agriculture, national security, climate impact, disaster management, and other relevant fields participated in this day-long workshop.
