Riding the wave to success! For the fourth year, Michigan Tech’s SENSE (Strategic Experiences through Naval Systems Experiences) Enterprise has been selected to participate in the Marine Energy Collegiate Competition (MECC) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Water Power Technologies Office. During the course of the competition, Huskies will identify a promising market and design a device for the blue economy, which includes applications and solutions for marine energy technologies. Strategic Education through Naval Systems Experience (SENSE) Enterprise at Michigan Technological University.
关于我们
The SENSE Enterprise’s mission is to enable the workforce of tomorrow to redefine the boundaries for air, land, sea, and cyber supremacy through experiential learning and discovery. Students design, build, and test engineering systems with a focus on Navy applications in all domains: space, air, land, sea, and undersea. They get hands-on experience with cutting-edge defense technologies that directly impact the safety and success of the armed forces. They prepare for civilian employment opportunities in Department of Defense research labs or with DoD contractors.

At a recent visit to a local school, our Marine Energy Collegiate Competition Team #MECC helped bring renewable energy to life! Under the team's guidance they assisted a class of 7th graders in building small Wave Energy Converters. Our team always looks forward to engaging with the next generation of future scientists and engineers! ???? #MarineEnergyCollegiateCompetition #RenewableEnergy

Congratulations to our MECC project advisor, Tania Demonte Gonzalez on the publication of her new paper!
New Publication Alert! ?? I'm thrilled to share our most recent paper titled "Nonlinear Model Predictive Control of Heaving Wave Energy Converter with Nonlinear Froude–Krylov Forces." This research dives deep into the optimization of wave energy devices through the use of a nonlinear model predictive controller (MPC), which improves energy extraction from ocean waves. We investigate the performance of both linear and nonlinear MPCs under irregular wave conditions, emphasizing the advantages of incorporating nonlinear Froude–Krylov forces. Key findings: ?? Nonlinear MPC shows higher energy absorption compared to linear MPC. ?? Better adherence to system constraints with the nonlinear model. ?? Impact of prediction horizon and re-optimization time on power and computation. Thank you Gordon Parker, Enrico Anderlini, and Houssein Yassin for your efforts and contributions! Check it out here ?? https://lnkd.in/drszu6gs #WaveEnergy #RenewableEnergy #MPC #ControlSystems #MarineEnergy
