This past weekend, MTSU hosted our first “Admitted Students Day” to meet incoming Fall 2025 students and their families ahead of summer orientation. We are so excited to officially welcome Tennessee’s next generation of public health leaders to campus this August! ???? #TrueBlue #PHamily
?? Welcoming the Next Generation of Public Health Leaders! ?? Today, we had the privilege of meeting with newly admitted students joining MTSU’s Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) program! These future public health professionals came from all over Tennessee, each bringing their own passion and career goals—some planning to become paramedics one day, healthcare administrators, community health workers, and health educators, while others are on paths toward PA school and nursing. A huge shoutout to Kayla Cameron, one of our outstanding students, for sharing her journey and career path with these new Blue Raiders! She’s a fantastic ambassador for our MTSU Public Health Program and a great example of where a BSPH degree can take you. We’re excited to see all the ways this next class will make an impact in public health—across Tennessee and beyond! ?? #MTSU #PublicHealth #PHamily

Thank you Elizabeth Hart, M.S. for coming to guest speak to students in our undergraduate Public Health Marketing and Communications course about the possibilities in Health Communication! We are excited to have you back at the end of the semester to provide feedback and comments to our students who will be creating their own Health Communication Campaign over the next 12 weeks in the course. #PHamily #TrueBlue
Thank you to my colleague, Chipper Smith from the MTSU School of Public Health, for inviting me to be the guest speaker today for their Health Communications class! It is always amazing to speak to students not only about my career but how they can make an impact in their own communities. Mental Health Cooperative is in the process of working alongside these students more as they matriculate through their degree programs and transition into the workforce (hopefully at MHC)! Super shoutout to one of the students in today’s class who said they actually attended another guest speaker presentation I gave in 2023. Ultimately they changed their major to Health Communications specifically due in part to what I presented in that previous class! How super cool!!!! That definitely made my day!!

In alignment with our program Core Value of "Collaboration", PhD Student Augustine A. had the opportunity to speak with the Kappa Xi Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity on the topic of sexual health alongside MTSU Health Services this past semester. Attendees learned about common misconceptions regarding STIs, proper methods for STI prevention, and received free sexual health resources. Afriyie's background as a practicing physician in his home country of Ghana equipped him with a passion for sexual health education and reducing stigma regarding HIV. Through our PhD program's strategic design, students are able to prioritize and grow their ability to address specific health disparities through hands-on opportunities. Assistant Professor of Public Health @ Middle Tennessee State University | Substance Use, HIV, Stigma
Thrilled to share that my colleagues and I have a new article published in Social Science & Medicine! Our study, “Longitudinal associations between intersectional stigmas, antiretroviral therapy adherence, and viral load among women living with HIV using multidimensional latent transition item response analysis,” delves into the complex interplay of stigmas and health outcomes, employing innovative analytical methods to shed light on these critical issues. For those interested, they are offering 50 days of free access to the article through the link below. I hope this work contributes to the ongoing dialogue on addressing stigma and promoting equitable health outcomes. https://lnkd.in/ehWs7m6d I’d love to hear your thoughts—let’s keep the conversation going!
