Incoming and currently enrolled students, there are many MTSU and Departmental scholarships available to you! Applications are due Feb. 15 for this cycle. It is very easy to complete. Please check out the MTSU Scholarship Manager Tool and put in an application. You never know what you could be eligible for! The PGA Department has numerous scholarship awards available. PGA student Hannah Ferreira has been named a recipient of the U.S. Department of State’s John S. McCain International Scholarship for Military Families. “Along with being a Buchanan Scholar in the Honors College, Hannah exemplifies strong leadership and civic engagement,” said Laura Clippard, undergraduate fellowship advisor at MTSU. “Her dedication to fostering connections and helping others has shaped her ability to communicate effectively. She has refined her leadership skills, demonstrating kindness, determination, and a deep commitment to making a positive impact on those around her.” Ferreira is a psychology and political science double major with a pre-law concentration and a University Honors minor. She will use the scholarship to study the history of psychology in Austria through an MTSU Signature Program over the summer. Melody Moreno (Public Policy & Management) was awarded a highly prestigious position with the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute this Spring 2025 semester. As part of the program, Melody is also interning at the US Senate in Washington, DC with Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto (NV). What is the Global Leaders Program with the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute? - It is a prestigious, highly competitive semester-long internship program featuring placement in Congressional and corporate legislative affairs office. Students will gain educational and hands-on experience with project-based public policy programs. The program takes place in the spring and in the fall semester of each year. Melody is a Public Policy & Management major who is highly active in student leadership and extracurriculars. She is a member of FUTURO at MTSU, the Student Government Association Judicial Board, Gamma Iota Sigma, and a routine volunteer in the community. Her achievements also include her academic work; she has been awarded Dean’s List and EXL scholar distinctions. Polk’s 1844 campaign for president and much more. "Prominent Tennessee political leader and businessman Johnny Hayes (1941–2008) loved American politics, and it fueled a passion for collecting political memorabilia. Over the years, he assembled one of the largest political collections in the United States and the most important collection documenting the history of Tennessee politics. In 2019, Hayes’ children—Craig Hayes, Amy Hayes, and Mary Kate Mouser—donated their father’s extensive collection to the Albert Gore Research Center so that future generations of students, teachers, scholars, and the public may learn and benefit from the collection...." Welcome back to the Spring 2025 semester! As we welcome students back into Peck Hall, we would like to share this interesting article featuring one of our own: Siri Reynolds, a Political Science - Pre Law major. Siri and her mother, Shauna (journalism), are both students together at MTSU! "Siri had big plans to leave the South for college — or at least to leave the state. But even with generous scholarship offers from the out-of-state schools she had applied to, she couldn't do that without accruing student debt. Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) offered her enough scholarship money to cover her tuition, books, and then some. And because it happens to be the four-year state school within a reasonable drive from our house, she would know at least one person there: her mom." https://lnkd.in/d77AAZm8

Mr. Byron Smith was the keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony for Fall 2024 graduation at MTSU. He was one of our Political Science majors (as well as Econ)! Our faculty & students are provided with ample opportunities for academic and professional development. One such shining example is a recent collaboration between Dr. Jon DiCicco (Jon DiCicco), faculty & current MAIA Director, and Fahad Rajput (2020 MAIA Graduate). Dr. DiCicco and Mr. Rajput collaborated on a recent book chapter publication, "Sustainable Strategic Adjustment: Confronting Climate Change and Rethinking Restraint in US Grand Strategy." This chapter is within "The Sources of Great Power Competition: Rising Powers, Grand Strategy, and System Dynamics" published by Routledge in October 2024.
