Proud to share MTBMA’s voice at the inaugural Maryland Chamber of Commerce Transportation Policy Forum this morning! Michael Sakata representing our industry and members alongside MD Chamber’s Mary Kane and other industry leaders was a privilege. Transportation infrastructure is the backbone of Maryland’s future, we know that safer roads save lives, family-sustaining jobs strengthen our communities, and modernized infrastructure enhances our quality of life. But with a $3.1 billion gap in the Transportation Trust Fund, the road ahead demands bold solutions. Together, we can drive innovative funding strategies and resilient infrastructure to power Maryland’s progress. Thank you to the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and presenting sponsor Amazon for hosting this important discussion and inviting MTBMA to the table. #MTBMA #TransportationInnovation #InfrastructureMatters
President & CEO, Maryland Transportation Builders & Materials Association | Providing a Voice for Maryland/Metropolitan Transportation Construction Industry
This morning, I had the honor of representing the Maryland Transportation Builders & Materials Association at the inaugural Maryland Chamber of Commerce Transportation Policy Forum. It was a privilege to help deliver the opening remarks with MD Chamber's Mary Kane, sharing the stage with Maryland’s leaders and industry experts to spotlight the critical role transportation infrastructure plays in our state. At MTBMA, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the companies and workers who are literally building Maryland’s future. Whether it’s constructing bridges, improving highways, or enhancing rail lines, their work: * Saves lives, ensuring safer roads for all Marylanders. * Supports family-sustaining jobs in every corner of our state. * Uplifts Maryland’s quality of life, making it a better place to live and work. Yet, the challenges ahead are significant. With a $3.1 billion gap in the Transportation Trust Fund, we must act decisively. Together, we can advocate for smart investments and bold innovations to address funding shortfalls, build resilient infrastructure, and create economic opportunities statewide. Thank you to the Maryland Chamber of Commerce for hosting this critical conversation. Let’s work together to chart a transportation future that benefits all Marylanders. Special thanks to the presenting sponsor, Anya Malkov from Amazon for supporting today’s event. Dial #250 and say “TTF” for more updates on how MTBMA and its partners are helping drive Maryland forward! #MTBMA #TransportationInnovation

Well said, Megan Owings. Construction is not just about physical infrastructure. It represents the jobs, stability, and opportunity that our economy is built upon. Without steady, sustainable investment in Maryland's transportation revenue streams, our state will continue to fall into disrepair. Learn more:

?? Today, MTBMA joined forces with engineers, contractors, safety professionals, and industry leaders at the 3rd Annual Safety Summit! ?? The event kicked off with opening remarks from Teri Soos, P.E., SHA Deputy Chief Operations Officer, and continued with insights from Heidi Van Luven, P.E. Luven, VP of Mid-Atlantic Transportation Engineering at Alpha Corporation and ACEC-MD President, William Pines, SHA Administrator, and Chrissy Nizer, MVA Administrator. The group discussed progress on the Governor’s Work Zone Safety Workgroup recommendations, all emphasizing a common goal: ensuring ongoing review, improvement, and education to keep everyone safe. Emily Cook (Wagman) and Neil Leary (WRA) presented on the essential roles and responsibilities across project phases, sparking a meaningful exchange on material staging, work zone access, area of work, and the unique challenges contractors face. The discussion underscored the importance of the "human element"—from safe access to porto-johns and breaks meeting OSHA and MSHA standards, to managing the complexities of night work. Attendees also connected with exhibitors who showcased innovations in work zone safety, including Traffic Pro-Beds, Raptor Truck System, Horizon Signal, and Bryx powered by KCI. Together, we’re building a safer future in the field! #SafetySummit #WorkZoneSafety #MTBMA
