Last, but not least… Congratulations to the?? 1st Place team in the Techstars Startup Weekend DeepTech Mississippi event - HealthView. This team focused on a health-monitoring platform using smart devices, targeting rural, underserved communities. Over 45 hours, they created a roadmap for their MVP, market entry, and partnerships with health providers for preventative care and urgent care use cases. ??They were awarded a flex desk at the CoWork space in Starkville - thanks to the MSU Center for Entrepreneurship & Outreach, $1,000 in legal consultations, and a fully funded victory dinner at a local Vicksburg restaurant. Today, we congratulate the ?? 2nd place winner of the Techstars Startup Weekend DeepTech Mississippi event: Team Rapid Hazard Modeling. This team worked hard over the weekend to develop a SAAS business model for this technology, targeting chemical manufacturers as a primary market and even building a short list of target customers. They were awarded 3 months of free office space at MSU@MCITy + $1,000 in free marketing assistance. Congrats to James Hendrick, Kyle Williamson, Courtney Hamilton, MBA and Omar Morris!

Congratulations to the 3rd place winner at the Techstars Startup Weekend DeepTech MS: Team Bathymetry - Victor Medina, Sean P., and Gwen Green. Team Bathymetry developed a business case for an ERDC's Modular Bathymetry Technology (found on the ERDC Innovations website). The team identified alternate applications and conducted limited customer discovery to understand problems that this technology can solve. For their efforts, they were awarded a $500 project voucher for prototyping by the @Mississippi Polymer Institute. Great work, Team Bathymetry!

What a wonderful way to end the weekend! On Friday, 3 teams of people who had never met, came together to develop a business path for technologies/products/ideas developed by University and Federal labs. Fast forward to yesterday, the teams presented pitches on a target market, development strategy and business model for their chosen technologies in just 45 hours! Looking ahead, some teams or individuals may choose to pursue licensing opportunities for these innovations, while the originating institutions might benefit from the teams’ valuable market research and insights. Both are possible outcomes and provide impactful movement for these potentially disruptive technologies.
