Student team that designs and manufactures completely solar-powered vehicles to race in the American Solar Challenge. The team has been working on rebuilding after being inactive for a few years, and we've made a ton of progress. This year, we're working to build an entirely new car. We've designed it to have a chromoly frame and a carbon fiber aeroshell. We're doing our design review soon, and then we'll work on manufacturing the frame and producing forms for fiberglass aeroshell molds.

Solar Car has been keeping busy recently! From fine-tuning our electrical systems to cleaning up our canopy, we've been making progress on getting the Independence ready for competition this summer. The mechanical subteam has also been working hard to finalize the design for our next car. Can't wait for FSGP 2025 (and Pat's! ??)?

The IEF Solar Car Conference 2025 sessions wrapped up yesterday, with 1-on-1s and conversations are continuing among the attendees on our private discord server. Congratulations to our graduate Joshua Schmidt! Josh spent 5 semesters on the Missouri S&T Solar Car Design Team and served as Chief Engineer for 3. He played a critical role in the revival of the team after a long period of inactivity. He greatly improved the team’s organization, and has been a valuable mentor to younger members. Josh graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a minor in Automation, and a certificate in Automation. He’s starting off his career as a substation engineer. Solar Car has been keeping busy this semester! We've been making progress on all of this year's projects and are anticipating our first design review. Over Homecoming weekend, we got to talk to alumni at Silver & Gold and hang out with our fellow Miners at the homecoming tailgate before the big game. We also attended the Rolla Boopalooza - we had a great time connecting with the local community, and we're excited to announce that we won the Design Center's costume competition with our team display!
