Robin Mathews, Scott Marlin, and Sam Gibson participated as a Special Award Judge at the 25th annual Minnesota Future City Competition on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The Surveyors judged the students’ understanding of and use of land surveying practices in their Future City.

Really enjoyed helping present "Preserving Minnesota’s Basic Infrastructure - the Cadastral Net" along with my colleagues Rod Squires, Samuel Gibson, and Kory Thurnau yesterday at the Preserve Minnesota Annual Conference! The Public Land Survey System is the most under-appreciated and perhaps most valuable public infrastructure component in American history and educating the public about that fact is one way to raise awareness of its deterioration and how that affects our society and economy. For this audience I think we did a good job linking the PLSS directly to the expenses and timelines associated with surveys of Conservation and historic preservation real estate transactions.

Last week, MSPS and Dunwoody College of Technology cohosted our first 3 day land survey camp for students in grades 6 - 8. The kids learned a little bit about the many things land surveyors do and had a lot of hands-on experience with surveying equipment. Many campers exclaimed, "I want to do this camp again next summer!" when their parents picked them up from the camp. https://lnkd.in/gCqfdmJz
