Last month, Attorney General Ellison shared a powerful message in a speech to charitable foundations in a time of unprecedented challenges. I'm sharing these words here so that others can be inspired by his call to action. "Do not submit in advance to this lawless attack on your values. This is especially important when it comes to using your funding the way your donors told you to.? As you know, my office cares about donor intent. And we enforce it. Your donors were prescient and courageous enough to send their hard-earned dollars to support these causes and the betterment of society. They expect you to follow through. The lawless attacks on civil rights by this administration do not invalidate donor intent.? ? So, if your donors told you to fund scholarships for students of color, you do that.? If they told you to fund small business loans to people with disabilities, you do that.? ? I am asking this community and its resources to stand up to the tyrannical efforts to undermine decades of progress. I understand that this might take money, it might take effort, and it will take courage. Be as brave as your donors. That’s all I’m asking for. They’ve shown leadership, now it’s your turn. Think about whether the society your benefactors imagined will even continue to exist if we don’t all do our part." ?

Request for Proposals Overview The GGSC is pleased to announce a request for proposals (RFP) to support nonfiction content and reported stories related to love. We are interested in projects that extend well beyond romantic love; we define love as a deep, unselfish commitment to another person’s well-being—even to put their interests before your own. The GGSC will distribute grants of between $5,000 and $50,000 to two dozen journalists and media producers who approach the topic of love from a variety of angles and across a range of media, including articles, videos, radio stories, podcasts, social media content, and more. The grants are part of the GGSC's Spreading Love Through the Media project, supported by a three-year grant from the John Templeton Foundation, with additional funding from Acton Family Giving and Unlikely Collaborators. In addition to financial support, we will also connect the grantees with scientific experts who will serve as advisors to their projects, guiding them to relevant research and helping them align their work with the science of love. Grantees will participate in quarterly cohort meetings online and three in-person convenings over the course of the project period. The submission window opens January 7, 2025, and the application deadline is 11:59 pm PT on March 24, 2025. For grant winners, the project period will run from September 1, 2025, to February 28, 2027. Spreading Love Through the Media: Request for Proposals

If you don't know @Scot Nakagawa, consider this your formal introduction and invitation to learn more. "How We Fight Back -Defend Democratic Institutions: Pressure lawmakers to uphold democratic norms and resist consolidation of power. -Advance Economic Justice: Push for progressive taxation, labor protections, and social safety nets to reduce economic desperation—the root cause of authoritarian appeal. -Hold Corporations Accountable: Expose and resist corporate complicity in authoritarian governance. -Mobilize Civil Society: Invest in grassroots organizing that builds counterpower outside of electoral politics. -Defend Civil Liberties: Challenge restrictions on speech, protest, and bodily autonomy through legal and direct action. -Raise Awareness: Educate the public on the risks of authoritarian normalization and the history of corporate capture. If we don’t fight now, we will wake up in a world where “freedom,” as under neoliberalism, takes on a new meaning; one that undermines democracy and accountability, making resisting authoritarianism even more difficult." The Convergence of Capitalism and Authoritarianism and the Global Crisis of Democracy
