I got into a car accident at age 19. I received a large settlement. Every day, I had anxiety about “wasting all that money” (as 'mom dukes' would say). ?? I bought expensive cars, clothes, and jewelry, and my little brother a replica of EVERYTHING I got. "We" were broke in a year. I didn’t believe deep down that I deserved the money –even though I almost died, broke my hip, and had several other injuries. ?? I felt guilty that I had so much money and the people in my neighborhood were still struggling. I know now… that mentality was the result of Financial Imposter Syndrome. ?? This is why I’m so passionate about the mental side of finance, if I'd had someone to help me understand what I was feeling…man it would have been a total game-changer. That’s alright though …. because I eventually figured out that my mindset was holding me back, received other large sums of money, and was in complete control. We don't have to feel guilty for having money, success, or anything else in life. Do you refuse to feel guilty for your success? ?? Thank you to Black Enterprise Magazine for picking up my story! #mindset #finances #success #coach #ericempowering

18 years ago, I was a stay-at-home Dad. And I caught hell for it. ?? People thought I didn’t have a job: I worked at Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios 3-5 nights per week. ?? People thought I was forgoing my education for my daughter’s mother’s success: Graduated from Loyola University... while attending evenings twice per week. ?? People thought we were broke: We purchased a beautiful, fully rehabbed condo during this same time. Here’s what I learned from that experience that helps me today: 1-Doing what’s best for your family may not always be understood by others. And it doesn’t need to be! 2-People who lead “cookie-cutter” lives sometimes hate those who are unorthodox. 3-By staying focused … you can become more successful than ALL of your critics. Thank you to Germany's Business Spotlight and Melita Cameron-Wood for allowing me to share my story with their audience. P.S. This is my first international feature story! ?? Hip Hop inspired me. Listening to the greats: LL Cool J, Run D.M.C., Nas, Tribe Called Quest, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, OutKast, Master P, and so many others expanded my worldview. And seeing how these artists leveraged their talent to build multi-million dollar brands helped reinforce one thing: I, too, could become an ENTREPRENEUR. Canvas Rebel Magazine gave me the honor of expressing how hip-hop inspired my business path. And I respect that … It’s one thing to be interviewed about the technical points of business, but what was the soundtrack to the moves I made? Any artists inspire you to become an entrepreneur? Share with us. Link to my article below. ?? Tara Gray #hiphop #entrepreneurship #inspiration #ericempowering #mindset
