EPI Group visited MSeis East Brent location to take a look at dual sensor (low light and IR) camera solutions for cetacean mitigation. EPI CEO Andy Smart and Marine Operations Manager Edward Goddard observed our training station, consisting of two FLIR M364C-LR gyro stabilized cameras, complete with viewing and monitoring hardware. This method of detection is definitely the future, complementing our Passive Acoustic (PAM) offerings to give a fully integrated package. It has added advantages of increased situational awareness for the Bridge crew, man overboard, security, floating debris avoidance etc etc. MSeis are looking forward to collaborating with academic institutions in the SouthWest, to advance AI automated detection and recognition.

#MSeis #NightHawkIII #PAM system showing a very large Pod of Dolphins passing vessel #RRSJamesCook. 'Data from off the coast of Uruguay, as part of the University of Exeter COSSMoSS project, funded by the UKRI (PI: Dr. Katy Sheen, and data provided by Jack Paton, University of York)' Great job guys. Looking forward to hearing more about the trip, Mark Higginbottom

Just a matter of #TIME. Great to meet up with Emily Edge and Ben Ford yesterday. They have developed a system for MSeis that delivers a solution for the "in house" calibration of hydrophones in the 200 Hz to 2 kHz range using standing waves. Thanks also go out to Stephen Robinson, Principle Scientist for Underwater Acoustics at NPL for the inspiration behind the project and to Matthew Brewer and Bradley Blunt for their hard work putting it into practice at the MSeis workshop. This is all part of the #A4I program from #InnovateUK which provides funding and critically connection to expert partners and facilities.

Mark Higginbottom enjoyed a great day out visiting Plymouth University, discussing future KTP collaboration for dual sensor thermal camera cetacean mitigation using AI. Thanks to IOANNA (Yana) PAPANIKOLAOU for hosting us so wonderfully and to Lauren Biermann, Dena B. and Haoyi Wang for their insight, knowledge and enthusiasm for the project. We also got to see Plymouth University's impressive wave tank facility. MSeis provide dual sensor thermal cameras in the UK Mark Higginbottom and through our partners JASCO in North America, contact Ian Hay #MSeis, #PAMsystems,#CetaceanMitigation,#ThermalDetectionCetaceans

Isensys Data Buoys. I took a visit to see the tech guys at Isensys and look how our small remote data buoys are coming along. It's been a tough couple of months in central Florida with succesive hurricanes wreaking havoc with people's lives and the ongoing logistical effects are being quickly dealt with, by adopting a positive "can do" attitude. Isensys are based in Melbourne, Florida. I was pleased to see our buoys are on track and indeed should have some enhancements with improved sensor and solar panel technology.

Great day out on the beautiful river Dart carrying out pollution monitoring with a REAV16 USV for the Great South West Launchpad program. MSeis working with partners HydroSurv, Chelsea Technologies, Cattewater Harbour Commissioners, Dart Harbour & Navigation Authority and Falmouth Harbour Commissioners to improve monitoring methods and technology. This is a most enjoyable scheme to work on as the outcomes will hopefully pave the way for improved environmental monitoring in the future. Special thanks to Robert Everitt who is patiently imparting his considerable knowledge of USV operation to the MSeis surveyors.

MSeis visit to National Physical Laboratory MSeis are pleased to announce that they are continuing to work on "in house" hydrophone calibration methodologies under the guidance of the National Physical Laboratory "Under water Acoustics" department. This is part of the IUK A4I scheme which is a great program to aid innovation. We are looking in particular at frequencies between 250 Hz and 2 kHz which often lie in the transitional zone between more traditional calibration methods. Stephen Robinson's team of Emily Edge and Ben Ford made the MSeis project team of Matthew Brewer, Bradley Blunt and Mark Higginbottom most welcome on our visit to NPL. We also had some time to take in some of the history of NPL at Bushy House. The apple tree we are standing in front of is a clone of Newton's Apple tree (I would be pleased to hear more about it if any history buffs out there have more information on it). #MSeis #NPL #hydrophonecalibration #PassiveAcousticMonitoring

Thank you so much to the GIP team at Innovate UK Catherine C. , Martin Lucy and Julie Coles for looking after a large cohort of excellent marine tech companies on our visit to St John's Newfoundland and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Lots and lots of business opportunities for MSeis, notably with EDGEWISE Environmental in St John's and JASCO Applied Sciences in Dartmouth. Hopefully more R and D projects with Canadian and UK companies in the pipeline. An enjoyable day was spent making dolphin sound spectrograms at Cove Demoday all arranged and facilitated by the efforts of James Kesten and Rachel Cox Thank you Canada for your hospitality. #PAM, #Dalhousie, #InnovateUK, #Cetacean

All those years of picking up great merchandise at Expos has paid off. Look at this steal from the maglia ciclamino at the Giro D’italia I made a couple of days ago!
