Since 2006, MAMA has supported the growth of a strong workforce essential to the health of all industries in the state by awarding more than $437,000 in scholarships. MAMA has a wonderful group of Board Members dedicated to promoting automotive manufacturing across our state. At the MAMA Recognition Dinner, Kevin Burgess, Toyota Motor Corporation, was honored for his tenure as MAMA President from 2020 to 2023, and Ryan Miller, Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation, was recognized on his retirement from the MAMA Board after 10 years. MAMA held its 2024 Recognition Dinner at the Old Capitol Inn on Nov. 6, where William (Skip) Scaggs, MAMA President, announced that Governor Tate Reeves and Barbara McDaniel, retired Toyota External Affairs Manager and past MAMA President, were being inducted into the MAMA Hall of Fame. The MAMA HOF, which was initiated in 2019, includes a select group of individuals that has been crucial to the growth of the Mississippi automotive manufacturing industry and MAMA. These two individuals certainly fit the criteria - Governor Reeves and Barbara McDaniel were recognized for their long service, leadership and impact on MAMA. Mississippi has over 18,000 students enrolled in STEM degree programs at its four-year, Tier 1 research universities; and Mississippi’s 15 community colleges offer two-year degree programs in automotive technology, which are structured around Automotive Service Excellence certification competencies. Each year MAMA awards scholarships to students whose interest in auto manufacturing is being shaped by these programs.
