Fostering a vibrant, healthy Roxbury neighborhood that supports the well-being & advancement of the community.

关于我们

Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC) was founded in the midst of a crisis in the 1960s. The survival of the Lower Roxbury community was at risk. Bulldozers were demolishing hundreds of homes, churches, and businesses through the City of Boston’s urban renewal program. A small, but determined, group of activists fought back. Led by community members including Ralph Smith and C. Vincent Haynes, the group mobilized residents against the further destruction of their neighborhood. They created their own vision for the area and procured the resources they needed to rebuild their once-thriving community. This effort resulted in the creation of the Lower Roxbury Community Corporation in 1966 – with Ralph Smith as its founder and first Executive Director. The organization was a community-based, non-profit that independently developed affordable housing for low and moderate-income residents – making it one of the country’s first Community Development Corporations.

I am so grateful to coordinate conversations like this. It is an honor to help create a space to learn new data about racial wealth gaps in Boston and beyond. I hope you will join Madison Park Development Corporation and the authors of Fifteen Cents on the Dollar - How Americans Made the Black-White Wealth Gap - Louise Story & Ebony Reed on Thursday, May 30th for a deep dive into the complexities of racial wealth disparities and strategies for change! The evening will feature networking, snacks from local food businesses, a compelling presentation on data regarding racial wealth gaps, and an engaging panel with local change makers followed by audience Q&A. The first 50 registrants will receive a free copy of Fifteen Cents on the Dollar upon its release on June 18th, 2024! Don't miss out on this important conversation. This event is free but does require registration. Register now as space is limited: https://lnkd.in/e7pP3FUE
