MOZAMBIKES is a social venture in Mozambique since 2009 seeking to improve the lives of rural Mozambicans living below the poverty line, by providing access to bicycles to improve their quality of life. These bicycles provide them with affordable, quality bicycles in order to access healthcare, clean water, schools and other means of income generation. The business is a social venture, seeking to scale the social mission of the company, which is to alleviate poverty through efficient transportation. MOZAMBIKES has distributed approximately 80,000 bicycles throughout Mozambique and implemented numerous training workshops for bicycle technician and entrepreneurship training that is coupled with coaching and mentoring. MOZAMBIKES also provides training programs to build independent “certified” technicians and support them to open their own bicycle related businesses, as well as road safety campaigns, riding clinics and other activities to develop capacities.

?? Exciting News! ?? New concept to the existent solution called "Txovas" in Mozambique. Lighter, Cheaper, made with a combination of reused recycled plastic, and can be used standalone or with a bicycle pulling it, as a trailer. Here are some pictures of a prototype handcart, dedicated for informal waste collection, which was designed and manufactured by MOZAMBIKES from a concept by Unwaste.io . The base of the cargo area is made from a recycled plastic panel manufactured by Topack Mocambique SARL . This handcart (called a "Txova" in southern Mozambique) is significantly lighter than a traditional cart, as its designed to carry light, bulky plastic over rough or sandy ground where motor vehicles can struggle. It can be pulled by one hand (loaded with 70kg of plastic, as in the pics), and easily loaded/unloaded onto a truck by two people. It can also... be towed by a bicycle (watch this space). These pictures are from field trials carried out in the Guava neighbourhood on the northern edge of greater Maputo, Mozambique. The PET waste in the picture originally collected by informal waste pickers, was delivered to a mechanical recycling company after the completion of the trial.

We are thrilled to partner with ICAP at Columbia University in Mozambique, in association with?UNICEF Mo?ambique/UNICEF, is partnering with the social enterprise?Mozambikes?to deliver dozens of bicycles to community health workers – ensuring that people living with or at higher risk of acquiring HIV do not need to compromise their health due to lack of transportation. Mozambikes partners primarily with health, education, rural employment, and agriculture sectors to alleviate poverty throughout the country one bicycle at a time. Designed by and for Mozambicans, Mozambikes is an ideal tool for fostering rural development: they reduce distances in rural areas, increase mobility, and enhance families’ livelihoods by offering durable bicycles that prioritize quality and empower communities economically. For people living with HIV, consistent adherence to medication is critical to keeping one’s viral load suppressed. In rural Mozambique, more than 60 per cent of people find health services out of reach due to high transportation costs and long travel distances. It was a pleasure to have had Marlene de Sousa in our home, she one of the pillars of HR in our country (Founder ATITTUDE HR Angola & Mozambique) and it was pleasure to have her as a member of Mozambikes staff for the morning ;) Learning how to assemble a bicycle, all the details and quality that we put in every process and component so the final beneficiaries can have a Great Quality Bicycle as a tool of Development. ? It all starts here at the factory of dreams and then we distribute "hope" in the form of ???????? throughout the various districts of our country. Durante a minha visita, o co-fundador Rui Mesquita, falou-me mais sobre os seus processos e tive ainda a oportunidade de conversar com a equipa fantástica que lá trabalha há muitos anos. 30 days ago, we launched NutriBike...this initiative will contribute to improve food safety for almost 40,000 people in Pemba city, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. The development of this approach started in mid-January, with concept and logo development. I made this video on my phone giving an idea of the process. I love the work I do.
