Housing solutions for people and families with disabilities
关于我们
Since 1995, Movin’ Out has helped build healthier, more resilient communities. We work with people across Wisconsin who meet income, disability, or veteran eligibility criteria to find safe, affordable, accessible homes that are part of ordinary neighborhoods. With our assistance and resources, people can purchase or rent homes of all types that provide the stable foundation for success in other areas of life. Movin' Out brings people and housing solutions together in ways that help create inclusive communities. We primarily serve low- to moderate-income households that include a person who has a permanent disability of any kind. We offer information, advice, referrals, and resources for home ownership, home repair for safety and accessibility, or rental housing. Movin’ Out also develops new apartments to create more opportunities for community-integrated independent living. We approach all of our work with attention to the ecological, social, and economic impacts of what we do. Vision - Our dream for the future Thriving communities inspired by people with disabilities that provide equitable, accessible, and affordable housing for all. My inbox is full of newsletters and messages from nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin and across the country who, like us, are facing unprecedented uncertainty and strain. I am deeply honored to be part of the community of dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to meet the needs of people in every corner of our nation. These important efforts impact not only individuals and their families, but lift entire communities. For example, in 2020, a team of graduate students from the UW Madison LaFollette School of Public Affairs completed a?study?to understand the economic and social impacts of Movin’ Out. They found that in one year, four of Movin’ Out’s developments created 490 jobs, and added over $100 million to the local economy. “If we assume that the organization’s existing projects generate the same impact per unit, the one-year impact for all of Movin’ Out’s developments would be 2,500 jobs and over $550 million.” Further, they reported data showing?“a significant reduction in Medicaid claims and emergency room visits for formerly homeless people with disabilities once they are housed.” This type of impact aligns with the growing body of evidence showing that “people who live in safe and affordable housing tend to have better mental and physical health.” And significantly, these improvements help to reduce healthcare costs for everyone. ? Diane Yentel, President and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits, sums it up perfectly with her?recent statement: “The work that nonprofit organizations do day in and day out to meet their lofty missions touch all of our lives, in each of our communities, and are truly what makes America great in the eyes of the world and at home.” The people we serve are among the most vulnerable to proposed changes. Our entire team is committed to continuing our mission to advance disability justice by co-creating safe, affordable, community-integrated homes. The challenges we face in this moment push us toward our most creative and innovative solutions. Please join us in this effort. Your support truly is more important than ever. With gratitude, Kathryne Auerback Chief Executive Officer https://lnkd.in/gnYXcBJ6
