MCHC Whitesburg Medical/Dental Clinic Provider Spotlight for National Diabetes Month Mary Collins, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, BC-ADM, CDE, MLDE, CPT, BC-ADM Diabetes Nurse Practitioner Family Nurse Practitioner, Mary Collins is a diabetes specialist who has worked with diabetes patients for nearly 20 years. She has a doctorate in nursing practice and is also board-certified in advanced Diabetes Management. Besides being a nurse practitioner, she is also a diabetes educator, master licensee diabetes educator, and certified insulin pump trainer. Mary works with all ages and types of diabetes. Patients can see her at any point in their diagnosis. Mary focuses on the improvement of patient outcomes and all aspects of diabetes. Along with treating the patient’s diabetes, she practices diabetes care management with her patients. Often patients with the best blood glucose levels and A1C readings will still be considered non-compliant in some areas of their care by insurance companies/payers. She makes sure their diabetes measures, including labs, foot exams, and eye exams, are up to date. Greetings, This is an introduction to the most exciting news approaching the heart of the mountains in quite some time. It is being viewed as a regional game changer. The excitement is growing exponentially and needs to be shared directly with you. MCHC has successfully provided continuing education for its employees and achieved individual educational goals. This is made possible through multiple avenues, including grants, collaborations with colleges/universities, local support, and the company. Within their RAISE program, they have kept their own open positions filled, seen individuals move up as their education continues within MCHC, and opened up opportunities to doors that some thought were forever closed. With the acquisition of the former Whitesburg High School campus, MCHC is expanding that concept by leaps and bounds! MCHC has plans to build a Healthcare Training Center while simultaneously historically preserving the gymnasium that is beloved by WHS alumni. The renovated facility will retain much of its rich history while retrofitting classrooms into learning simulation labs, computer classrooms, and instruction space. The concession stand will be redesigned to be an internet café space, while the décor will include displays of the building’s illustrious history and victories (design plan follows). This project is just now in the beginning phase, and the community and former Yellow Jackets are enthusiastic and committed to making this building again a place of learning. The possibilities and growth potential are endless. This leads us to 2 main categories of development: The historical preservation of High School Hill with a nod to our beloved history; The Healthcare Training Center will be available to all of our region and will have many levels of education and training available, from beginning phlebotomy classes, medical assistant training, advancement to nursing classes, and all the way to the clinical path of becoming an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. The intent is to add other supporting healthcare roles and training so that all traditional and non-traditional students can achieve their dreams without ever leaving home. Just imagine….
