At age six, Jecinta Nlebedim '23 already knew about first-aid and wound care at her father's pharmaceutical store in Nigeria. After his passing, she pursued her graduate degree in nursing in the United States. Fortunately, the caring staff at the Mount made all the difference in her MSN-MAGELIN program. “Executing the guidance I received, and persevering through the tough times helped me successfully complete my program," Jecinta says. "I have learned not to let tough times quench my vision, but to rely on my dream to overcome tough times.” Read her story here: https://lnkd.in/gyF9Ywsw

This Black History Month, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of Black nursing pioneers who have left an indelible mark on healthcare. Today, we shine a light on one inspiring figure: This month, we proudly spotlight Mabel Keaton Staupers (1890–1989), a visionary leader and tireless advocate for racial equality in nursing. Staupers was pivotal in desegregating the U.S. military nursing corps during World War II. Her unwavering commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting diversity has inspired generations of healthcare professionals. Join us in celebrating Mabel Keaton Staupers, whose courage and determination have enriched nursing and paved the way for a more inclusive future. #BlackHistoryMonth #MabelKeatonStaupers #NursingTrailblazer
