Pende and other researchers here are studying the molecular mechanisms underlying the axolotl's prolific regenerative abilities, seeking pathways for boosting #regeneration in humans.

Emily Spaulding, Ph.D., a former postdoc in the Laboratory of Dustin Updike, Ph.D., says his mentoring wasn't just about passing on technical expertise. “It’s everything else that also comes into play as a research scientist,” she says. MDI Biological Laboratory's Light Microscopy Facility is a state-of-the-art imaging center serving our researchers, students and visiting scientists from around the region and the world. Frédéric Bonnet, Ph.D., manages the LMF and provides training on its advanced array of microscopy. This image, created using a #Zeiss widefield microscope, depicts pig kidney cells. Come get hands-on training in cloud processing of single-cell genomic data with us! ScRNAseq in the Cloud: Pipelines to Insights 2024 October 23-25, 2024 at MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The MDI Biological Laboratory Data Science Core, in cooperation with our partners at MemVerge, is hosting a workshop on the analysis of single-cell RNA-seq data using Cloud Resources from AWS as managed and optimized with the Memverge suite of tools. This workshop is part of our ongoing efforts as part of the Data Science Core within the Maine INBRE, where our focus is to "Build a community of practice in data science to advance biomedical research in Maine." The workshop is open to all, but we especially invite our colleagues and partner in the Maine and Northeast NIH IDeA programs.

I’m thrilled to share that I wrapped up an incredible summer internship at MDI Biological Laboratory, where I had the opportunity to dive deep into the world of biological research! ???? During my time there, I worked alongside an amazing team of scientists and researchers, focusing on Pro-inflammatory Responses Induced By the cGAS-STING Pathway, Toward Nephrogenesis. I gained hands-on experience in techniques like Quantitative real-time PCR, In-situ Hybridization, Microscopy, and an introduction to R & Python coding, which not only enhanced my technical skills but also fueled my passion for biological sciences. A couple of highlights of my 10-week internship were being able to meet science enthusiasts, working alongside various professionals and many graduate students from around the globe, attending collaborative meetings with kidney scientists at The Jackson Laboratory , and finally having the privilege to present my findings at the end-of-summer symposium. It was incredibly rewarding to contribute to ongoing projects and collaborate with such brilliant minds! A huge thank you to MaineInBRE for funding me, to Iain Drummond Ph.D, Hannah Lust, Ph.D., Andrea Tilden, Ph.D. , and my mentor, OLAJUYIN Olaleye Ebenezer, as well as the entire MDIBL team for their guidance and support. This experience has solidified my commitment to pursuing a career in biological research, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!
