Angry outbursts from children are common – from sibling squabbles to protests over screen time limits. But some parents may find these moments extra challenging, with some saying their child gets angrier than peers or has experienced negative consequences when angry. Many parents even think they sometimes set a bad example of handling anger themselves, according to the new Mott-led national poll. ?? Meet Elliot one of the Little Victors from our 2024 calendar. "In March of 2021, Elliott had his first seizure. Over the course of the next several months, he would develop multiple seizure types resistant to medication and be diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Following this diagnosis would come several challenges, including uncontrolled seizures, developmental delays, autism, ADHD, multiple respiratory failures and hospitalizations. Through it all, he remains the most loving, fun and sweetest little dude we know. We are so grateful for the teams at Mott, as we have gotten to know many of them very well. From child and family life to the gift shop volunteers, respiratory, nurses, doctors, other brave kiddos, and everyone in between, thank you! Your patience, support, hugs and words of encouragement have kept us going, and the value of each moment will never be forgotten in our family.” Hail, Elliot! During National Epilepsy Awareness Month, you can help support kids like Elliot. Learn more at victors.us/calmepilepsy.

Hybrid procedures are becoming more common for newborns with complex heart conditions who are premature, small or have other characteristics that make open heart surgery a high risk option for them after birth “There are many benefits to this less invasive alternative for some patients, including improved survival, but we’re trying to understand the potential downsides as well. It’s important for families to be counseled on all possible patient outcomes for every treatment that may impact quality of life and length of hospital stays.” - Mott pediatric cardiologist Jeff Zampi, M.D. New findings from the Mott congenital heart team presented at the 2024 American Heart Association scientific sessions. michmed.org/vkqAX
