?? UNAIDS’ #WorldAIDSDay2024 report is here! UNAIDS calls on everyone, everywhere, to take the RIGHTS path to #endAIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Failure to uphold the rights of people from marginalised communities is prolonging the epidemic and preventing us from achieving a world free of AIDS. To #endAIDS, we must especially protect the rights of women and girls, improve their social and economic status, and empower them in decision-making to reduce the risk of HIV infection. Expanded access to education leads to lower HIV rates. When young people, especially young women and girls, are empowered and educated, it creates healthier, more equal communities. The human right to health and education must be upheld for everyone, everywhere. Read more here: https://buff.ly/4eSNb3U

关于我们
mothers2mothers (m2m) is an African primary health care organisation that employs women living with HIV as community health workers across 11 African countries. These “Mentor Mothers” deliver integrated health services at clinics and in communities to ensure everyone, everywhere has access to the services they need to be healthy and stay in care. View this page or visit our website to find out more. m2m’s proven, peer-led model is focused on ending HIV, as well as tackling related health challenges that disproportionately impact people living with HIV—such as tuberculosis, cervical cancer, diabetes, and malaria—all with the aim of building a fairer, healthier future. The employment of local women as community health workers means that we are delivering a model that prioritises health care for families who need it most, delivered by women who know them best. To amplify our impact, we also work closely with governments, multilaterals, and implementing partners to shape policies and strengthen health systems based on our 20+ years of experience. Since we began in 2001, m2m has created jobs for over 12,000 women living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa and, together, they have reached more than 16 million people with critical health services and education and helped to keep alive over 3 million at-risk mothers and infants. In 2023, we achieved virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among our enrolled clients for the 10th consecutive year, reaching a 0% transmission rate for the first time—a goal that has driven our work since our creation.

#AboutLastNight... mothers2mothers (m2m) hosted The Mothers' Ball, a celebration of the incredible impact of m2m's work and of the rich diversity, creativity, and excellence of the African continent. This year’s theme, #TheWomanWhoChangedMyLife, invited guests to reflect on the women who’ve shaped their journeys, while also hearing the incredible and inspiring stories of m2m clients about the woman who changed their lives—m2m Mentor Mother Bupe Sinkala from Zambia. Bupe was in London to represent the #PowerOfMother and the power of African women in creating lasting change. Her words were a powerful reminder that each of us have the power to make a difference: “I am here because I was in a situation where the only options were to give up or keep fighting. And I don’t give up...You might think you are just one person and that the challenges are too big, but I ask you to remember just one thing, that I too, am just a normal person, from Zambia, who wants to help others navigate life-changing moments more easily than I did.” Now more than ever, it’s crucial to invest in the power of African women transforming lives and creating healthy futures for their communities. Because when women lead, communities get what they need. The event took place at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and was hosted by the wonderful Perri Shakes Drayton. Guests enjoyed an African-inspired menu curated by Chef Odutayo of The Future Plate and fantastic performances by Natalie Rushdie, The Zulu Stomp, ELIZA, and Cuppy. ??: Dave Benett

Last week, mothers2mothers (m2m) connected with both longtime and new supporters in NYC at an end-of-year reception generously hosted by our partner Glenmede . m2m Co-founder Robin Smalley and m2m President & CEO Frank Beadle de Palomo discussed m2m’s remarkable growth and impact over the last 23 years— which has been driven by our peer-lead, community-based model that employs local African women as community health workers, called Mentor Mothers. Robin shared more about the ‘power of mothers’—the incredible ability of women to change lives, not just their own, but those around them as well. Frank highlighted our remarkable impact, including achieving a 0% mother-to-child transmission of HIV rate last year among our enrolled clients for the first time, together with our partners. However, Frank noted, the work is far from done: “Our determination to deliver for the communities we serve is stronger than ever.” A big thank you to Glenmede and to everyone who joined us. We look forward to working together to bring health and opportunity to communities that need it most.

???? This #WorldChildrensDay, mothers2mothers (m2m) is highlighting our work to support orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in sub-Saharan Africa. For children in these communities, the challenges can be immense—from losing a parent to HIV to growing up in stigmatised or resource-scarce environments. Thanks to m2m’s community-led model, there is hope. We recently spoke with Yolande Baker, m2m’s Senior Technical Advisor for Early Childhood Development and OVC, about the unique challenges faced by the children and families we serve in South Africa and how our community-led approach is making a difference.
