Healthy Babies Come From Healthy Moms

关于我们

Founded in 2000 as Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Initiative (PACPI) with a generous initial donation of $1 million and a focus on HIV, the organization has expanded our mission and is now Mother and Child Alliance. Mother and Child Alliance (MACA) reinforces a safety net during and after pregnancy for moms, babies, and their providers to prevent HIV and other serious, costly pediatric infections, in newborns. We strengthen disparate prenatal and postpartum systems of care in Illinois and across the U.S. We could not do it without the continuing and generous support of people and partners like you. We understand these are uncertain times. If you can help support the moms and babies we serve today, you can make a direct impact on our COVID-19 response. If you would like to make a pledge for the future, next year or in your estate, organization or corporate giving plans, please contact us by email at [email protected]. For more on how we are managing COVID-19 impacts, please see our Facebook page. Our Perinatal Syphilis Warmline is part of our ongoing campaign to lower the rate of syphilis and prevent transmission of syphilis to newborns in Illinois. It allows health care providers to reach out for clinical guidance, and messages left after hours will be returned within one business day. Check out this new flyer which provides more info about the warmline, and includes its new logo! Also, our new combined website for both our 24/7 Perinatal HIV Hotline and our Perinatal Syphilis Warmline is a great resource that’s packed with information and resources to help healthcare providers assist their patients. You can find it here: ilperinatalid.org

We did it! AIDS Run & Walk Chicago is in the books for 2024. It was an overcast Saturday morning with choppy waves on the lakefront, but Team MACA still turned out in force, and we’ve got lots more great photos that we’ll be sharing in the days ahead. As always we're sending out a *HUGE* thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, supported us, cheered us on, and reshared our posts. As of this writing, we're still short of our goal for this year, but it's not too late to help close the gap! No donation is too small, whether it’s $5, $20, or more. Let's hear it for kid power! We love the fact that there are always young people walking with us as part of Team MACA for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago — and in fact they've been some of our best fundraisers! ? There are just a couple of days left until this year's #AIDSRunWalkChicago on September 28. Can you chip in a few dollars to help us reach our goal for this year? Your donations will be used to keep moms and babies healthy, as we work to make sure moms with HIV get the care and support they need, and prevent transmission of HIV to newborns. ? September is Newborn Screening Awareness month! Every year, millions of babies in the US receive routine screening — and thousands of babies who are born with serious but treatable conditions get the extra care and attention they need so they can grow up healthy, thanks to newborn screening. Here in Illinois, newborn screening began in 1965 with a test for phenylketonuria and currently tests babies for more than 40 different disorders, including congenital hypothyroidism, severe combined immune deficiency, sickle cell disease, hearing loss, and critical congenital heart disease among many others. September is #SickleCellAwarenessMonth! Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), an inherited blood disorder that is more prevalent in individuals of African and Latinx/Hispanic descent, affects approximately 100,000 Americans. Every September, people living with sickle cell disease, their caregivers, advocates, healthcare providers, and others come together to bring awareness to the disease and dispel the myths and stigmas surrounding it. The month also brings attention to the ongoing need for research, better care practices, new treatments, and an eventual cure. Facts about sickle cell disease: ? SCD is the most common inherited blood disorder in U.S. ? There are approximately 2,000 babies born with SCD annually in the U.S. ? 1 out of every 365 Black or African American babies are born with sickle cell disease. ? 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American babies are born with sickle cell disease. ? About 1 in 13 Black or African American babies are born with sickle cell trait. Amber Thurman did not have to die. Amber was a 28-year-old mother who lost her life due to Georgia's abortion ban. This is not an isolated incident. Women and birthing persons are dying because of cruel, dangerous laws that prioritize ideology over women's lives. We cannot stand by as more families are torn apart by these draconian bans. It's time to speak out, take action, and demand the repeal of deadly abortion restrictions. Our right to make decisions about our own bodies - our very lives - hangs in the balance. Stand with us in the fight for reproductive justice and the health of all women. Sign our petition to tell Georgia lawmakers to END abortion bans in Georgia: https://lnkd.in/gZhg5463 #RepealAbortionBans #ReproductiveJustice #WomensLivesMatter #SisterLoveInc #TrustBlackWomen #AbortionIsHealthcare #AbortionIsAHumanRigh
