Happy International Women's Day from everyone at Mosaic! Today, we celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of women in our community and around the world. We also recognize there is still work to be done to advance the rights and safety of women and girls. Gender inequality and gender-based violence are a very real part of every community and must be addressed to truly build a safer world for everyone. We are proud to work with and on behalf of women whose human rights have been violated. It is an incredible privilege to walk alongside survivors and refugees on their journey toward a life free from violence, and we are inspired every day by their strength, resilience, and bravery.

For over 30 years, Mosaic has been a lifeline for resettled refugee families in Texas through crucial wrap-around services. However, an unexpected and indefinite federal funding freeze has cut off essential resources. As of today, our Refugee and Citizenship programs have not received federal reimbursement since December, jeopardizing our ability to serve those in desperate need. This sudden loss of funding has forced us to make devastating cuts, including the furlough of dedicated staff members, leaving many families feeling scared and uncertain about their future. Despite our unwavering commitment to providing critical services, program operations have been drastically scaled back, limiting the support available to those who need it most. With limited program staff remaining, refugee families who have already endured unimaginable hardships are being turned away from case management, legal services, and citizenship assistance—creating barriers that make it harder for them to begin rebuilding their lives and assimilating to their new home. Black survivors have long been at the forefront of the movement to end gender-based violence in the United States. This Black History Month, we honor Black survivors' critical role in the anti-violence movement and the fight for dignity and justice for all survivors. As we recognize Black History Month, we honor Black survivors who bravely spoke up despite the immense pressure to stay silent. They laid the framework for future survivors to come forward, and their courage needs to be remembered. Mosaic Family Services will always stand with refugees. By standing with refugees, we honor the shared values of opportunity, inclusion, and freedom that the United States was founded on. Together, we can build a world where everyone has the opportunity to live in safety and dignity.

Happy Lunar New Year! ?? My name is Cindy Nguyen, and I'm the Volunteer Coordinator at Mosaic! This Lunar New Year, we celebrate the Year of the Snake, which symbolizes wisdom and transformation. Every culture celebrates differently, but here are some examples of how it's celebrated in Vietnamese culture! T?t, or Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is about reuniting with family, honoring ancestors, and embracing new beginnings. In the days leading up to T?t, we sweep our homes to rid of the bad luck from the past year and to welcome good fortune. The food varies from region to region, but I'm much more familiar with the Northern dishes! We prepare dishes such as Bánh Ch?ng (square sticky rice cake), Giò L?a (Vietnamese pork roll), Giò Th? (Vietnamese head cheese), and my absolute favorite, Th?t ??ng (meat jelly)! It's customary to visit friends and family to exchange New Year's greetings. Lì xì, or red envelopes, containing lucky money are also handed out. May the new year bring you endless joy, prosperity, and good luck! ??

We are so grateful to our friends at Citi for helping spread holiday cheer! Last week, Citi's Asian Heritage Network hosted a holiday party at Mosaic House, where volunteers led activities with the children and served a meal for the residents. One volunteer even braided a resident's hair, helping her feel confident and beautiful! Thank you to everyone at Citi for making this such a special and memorable holiday season for survivors at Mosaic House!

Thank you so much to the incredible women at Orchid Giving Circle for selecting Mosaic as a 2024 grant recipient! The Orchid Giving Circle provides funding to organizations that support social change and services to North Texas Asian communities. This support is especially important to Mosaic to help us provide comprehensive, culturally competent services to Asian survivors.
