Our final #NationalNutritionMonth Spotlight is Brandon Fowler, Clinical Nutrition Manager, who worked his way up after starting with Morrison as a dietetic intern. ?? After being a personal trainer for 9 years, Brandon recognized that he needed to improve his nutrition knowledge, so he returned to school and earned a degree in dietetics from the University of Northern Colorado. While completing his Morrison Healthcare Dietetic Internship, he also worked as a part-time patient dining associate with Morrison and became a full-time acute care dietitian once he finished his internship. Brandon's growth into his current role is a great example of the opportunities that await dietitians within Compass Group USA!

After a remarkable 42 years with Morrison, Maureen Janowski, Corporate Director of Malnutrition, is set to retire in April. Whether she was redesigning systems to help dietitians in senior living facilities plan menus more effectively or writing specialized diets for inmates at Chicago's Cook County jail, Maureen exemplified adaptability and commitment to her profession. Her impact on the malnutrition program in the last 5 years has been incredible, and these improvements will help healthcare systems for years to come. We are so grateful to Maureen for everything and wish her a very happy retirement! ? Learn more about Maureen's achievements here: https://bit.ly/3FRzark

Can you imagine completing the necessary dietetics courses while also premiering a film at the Sundance Film Festival? This is precisely what Ericka Naegle, our next #NationalNutritionMonth spotlight, did in 2018. Ericka had a longtime interest in a career in nutrition and left the TV and film industry to enroll in a master's program at the University of Southern California. After discovering her passion for critical care while training to become a Registered Dietitian, Ericka worked diligently in this area at Olive View- UCLA and even got promoted to a NICU & Nutrition Support Specialist. When asked for advice she would give future dietitians, Ericka said, "You don’t have to figure everything out alone—lean on your team, share knowledge, and support one another. That’s how we all become better dietitians!" Compass Group USA

?? Celebrating Women’s History Month ?? Meet Mohanie Lilia, Sr. Director of Food & Nutrition at Morrison Healthcare! Born in Guyana, South America, Mohanie was raised in an environment full of excitement, rich cultural experiences, and a deep connection to her roots. Her childhood was filled with energy, curiosity, and the foundation for the person she is today. After moving on to pursue higher education, Mohanie earned a degree in Business Management, which paved the way for her successful career. Today, she proudly serves as the Senior Director of Food & Nutrition Services at Morrison Healthcare, where she has made a significant impact on the industry. In addition to her professional achievements, Mohanie is deeply committed to empowering and supporting other women in leadership. She currently serves as a board member for the Women in Leadership program at the University of New Haven, giving back to the community and helping shape future generations of female leaders. As a woman in a leadership position, Mohanie has faced her share of challenges, but these experiences have only fueled her determination. Having to work twice as hard to be recognized and taken seriously, her perseverance and commitment to excellence have allowed her to break through barriers. Outside of her career and leadership roles, Mohanie finds peace and joy in gardening and traveling—two passions that allow her to connect with the world in a personal way, whether she’s nurturing plants or exploring new cultures. At home, she is a proud wife and mother to two wonderful children, and her family continues to be her greatest source of support and inspiration. Thank you, Mohanie, for your invaluable contributions to our organization and for being an inspiring leader! Your dedication, strength, and passion are a true testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of strong female leadership. #WomensHistoryMonth #Leadership #WomenInLeadership #Empowerment #Diversity #Inspiration #FoodAndNutrition #Growth #MohanieLilia Compass One Healthcare

I'm excited to share not only an article that I co-authored but more importantly the results from a vitally essential program that my Morrison Healthcare team at Cleveland Clinic helped develop and operationalize to deliver healthy, flavorful meals to homes in food desert neighborhoods, in which patients with high ED utilization, food insecurity, and nutrition-related chronic disease lived. We demonstrated that this intervention is feasible and makes sense economically to improve patient and community outcomes. My hope is that other health systems will create and fund similar programs to serve their communities, and build the body of evidence to convince health insurers including Medicare to cover these interventions.
Medically Tailored Meals: A Smart Investment for Healthcare? ?? A new Cleveland Clinic study confirms that healthcare-run MTM programs can boost patient satisfaction, cut hospital visits, and reduce costs—especially for vulnerable populations. The average healthcare savings = $12,046 per person #MTMswork https://bit.ly/42S17cj?

This past month, I had the privilege of contributing an article on heart-healthy cooking to Northside Hospital’s News Center. In the article, I highlight three simple yet impactful tips to improve heart health: 1. Swap salt for herbs and spices. 2. Beware of your cooking base. 3. Substitute your sugar for fruit. Click the link to read the full article! A huge thank you to my preceptors at Northside Hospital and to the Morrison Healthcare Dietetic Internship for providing me with incredible opportunities like this. #MHC2025DI Morrison Healthcare

This week, our Planet Promise Change Maker is Senior Executive Chef at Morrison Healthcare, Gustavo Perez! As a regional chef responsible for five large volume health system campuses, Chef Gustavo supports, trains, and provides resources to these accounts. The initiatives began to reduce the cost of goods, improve efficiency, and align with the hospital's mission. Ensuring chefs are trained on best practices to eliminate food waste is critical. It’s more than just asking, “why are we throwing food away?” It needs to be integrated into action plans, daily and weekly to-do lists, and beyond email communication. Engagement, follow-up, and communication are essential. In busy kitchens, chefs can't always stop to take action. Chef Gustavo's role is to understand each chef's priorities and help them integrate waste reduction goals into their daily routines. Chef Gustavo is fostering a culture of connection, communication, and motivation. He sends calendar reminders for special days and uses survey insights and rounding to create demos that improve scores. Noticing a communication breakdown, he created a WhatsApp group chat for his chefs, who are often too busy cooking to be at their computers. This app allows Chef Gustavo to send quick messages read within minutes, such as recognizing a chef for repurposing food, forecasting, or thinking about processes. These messages motivate other chefs to participate. While Chef Gustavo knew how to be a good chef in his unit, he learned how to influence his team amidst the daily "whirlwind." Now, they have Waste Not Champions who collaborate with the Unit Chef to lead a waste reduction program in the hospitals they serve. Amazing work, Chef Gustavo! #PlanetPromise #StopFoodWasteDay #FoodWaste #WasteNot Compass Group USA

?? ?? Happy National Nutrition Month! Let's talk about smart snacking! ?? ?? Yesterday, through the Morrison Healthcare Dietetic Internship, I had the opportunity to share nutrition tips on smart snacking (and provide some yummy examples) at MUSC Health - University Hospital. Here's what I discussed: Snacks can be a great way to fuel your day, but making?smart?choices is key! Instead of reaching for processed snacks, opt for nutrient-dense options that provide energy and essential nutrients. ? Plan Ahead?– Pre-portion snacks like trail mix, cut-up veggies, or whole-grain crackers to avoid mindless eating and save time later on. ??Balance is Key?– Combine protein, fiber, and healthy fats for satisfying snacks, like Greek yogurt with fruit or low-fat cheese with whole grain crackers. ??Think Seasonal & Simple?– Choose fruits and veggies based on what is in season or on sale. ??Get Creative!?– Try making roasted chickpeas, homemade smoothies, or veggie chips for a delicious, nutritious twist. By making intentional snack choices, you can boost energy levels and stay on track with your health goals! More resources on smart snacking can be found through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Thank you to Morrison Healthcare for providing me with this opportunity! #NationalNutritionMonth #MHC2025DI
