Morreale Communications team members Wendy Abrams, Mary McIlvain, and Molly Zupan had the privilege of attending the Illinois Public Airports Association (IPAA) 2024 Annual Fall Conference in Galena on October 7th and 8th. They shared important insights about the Illinois Aviation Fuel Tax Program and engaged with airport managers and directors to discuss state funding opportunities for airport projects. This morning at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce’s “Chicago at a Crossroads” event regarding the future of Nuclear Energy, I was reminded of the power of a good example in communicating about a complex issue. As Illinois (and our country) tackles the need for continued low-cost, reliable, clean energy sources with increasing demand to power data centers, AI technologies and economic development, I appreciated Dan Metcalf at Equinix for sharing this most basic example to showcase the demand for greater energy supply as rapidly developing technologies push the current energy capacity to its edge: “One ChatGPT query uses about 10 times more energy than one Google search.” As nuclear moves back into the forefront of energy supply discussion with regulators, policymakers, business, community- based organizations, and the public, the need for education and awareness through thoughtful strategic communications grows.
