We are highlighting the City of Westerville for #SustainableSeptember and their ZeroWaste Plan. The city aims to cut landfill waste by 80% by 2032 and 90% by 2040. Residents have already composted nearly 600,000 lbs of food waste! Additionally, the City has partnered with the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) for the Save More Than Food campaign, which educates community members about ways to reduce and divert food waste. This #SustainableSeptember we are highlighting the efforts of our Sustainable2050 members. The City of Upper Arlington is making strides toward a sustainable future at the Bob Crane Community Center with the installation of over 400 solar panels on its roof. Visitors will be able to view real-time energy savings on a monitor located in the main lobby. ?Adding solar panels is projected to reduce carbon emissions by an impressive 215 metric tons each year, the equivalent to taking every diesel-powered vehicle owned by the City of Upper Arlington off the roads for an entire year. Exciting news! MORPC has been awarded a $15 million federal grant to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Central Ohio. The MORE EVS project will bring charging stations to 62 locations, focusing on underserved urban and rural communities. This initiative, made possible through a partnership with Smart Columbus, City of Columbus, AEP Ohio, HNTB, and other partners, is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 4,000 tons, pushing us closer to our region’s sustainability goals.
