Building Northern Europe’s Biggest Legal Tech Conference In a recent episode of More Than A Lawyer, hosted by the lovely Holly Cope, we—me and Alexander Bitskov—delved into the rapidly evolving landscape of legal tech, reflecting on how technology continues to reshape the legal profession. The trends we discussed aren’t just about efficiency; they’re about transformation at a fundamental level. Key themes include: - AI Accuracy and Data Quality: As artificial intelligence increasingly influences legal processes, the focus is no longer solely on automation. The accuracy of AI systems and the quality of the data they rely upon are becoming the foundation of meaningful innovation. Missteps in these areas can jeopardize trust and outcomes. - Knowledge Management: Legal professionals are grappling with a new era of managing immense volumes of information. Tools that refine and structure knowledge for practical application will define the next stage of legal tech success. - Human Agency: Technology isn’t replacing lawyers; it’s redefining their role. The importance of human judgment, ethical oversight, and strategic decision-making remains paramount. Lawyers will continue to steer complex legal issues, guided by the assistance of intelligent systems. One of the most notable conclusions from our discussion is this: the line between "lawyers" and "legal technicians" is becoming increasingly distinct. As one of my law professors remarked during my time in law school, legal professionals generally fall into two categories: those who excel in creativity, flexible thinking, and complex decision-making; and those who primarily perform technical legal tasks. The latter group, often referred to as "legal technicians," is facing an escalating risk of obsolescence due to advancements in AI. Tasks that are repetitive, rule-based, or require minimal interpretative judgment are now handled more effectively by technology. This transition emphasizes that the future of the legal profession belongs to those who bring innovative, strategic, and human-centric approaches to the table. It’s not about competing with AI—it’s about leveraging it to amplify human capabilities. The conversation underscored a pivotal truth: legal tech’s future isn’t just about tools. It’s about reshaping the profession to prioritize precision, ethics, and the indispensable role of human agency. We invite you to watch the full discussion here: https://lnkd.in/dcbSjS3d and share your thoughts. Where do you see the future of legal tech heading? ?? During a meeting, my client burst into tears. I wasn't sure what to do. “My wife… what if she can’t stay here?” 2018: I was an immigration lawyer. My job was to know the immigration law. But in that moment.. the law wasn’t what he needed. I could have listed policies, cited case law, reassured him with logic. But none of that would have stopped him crying. So, I listened. Let him feel. Empathised. That day, I learned lessons that still matter today: 1. Clients don’t just want answers, they want to feel heard. The law is black & white. People are not. 2. The best lawyers don’t just solve problems, they hold space. 3. Listening is a powerful tool. People remember how you made them feel. Emotional intelligence turned out to be my competitive advantage in law. I'd recommend making it yours. My clients recommended me to their friends because I was known as the "human" lawyer. And the best part? ??This skill costs nothing but is worth everything. Would you agree? ?? PS. This week marks the start of #Neurodiversityweek. Did you know that 80% of dyslexics leave school unidentified. As an individual with dyslexia I am pleased to see the increased education around this area of neurodiversity, a lot of this has been down to Kate Griggs with her wonderful work around #dyslexicthinking. Check out the University of Dyslexia, DyslexicU. As a solicitor seeing people talking about their neurodiversity in work is another positive. I personally put my head on the chopping block last year when I was part of a podcast with More Than A Lawyer talking about dyslexia in the legal profession. It is my belief that no one before that podcast had spoke up as a senior leader in the legal profession with #dyslexia and how they have navigated (and continue to do so) that aspect in work. It was important personally to me, to lead on that regardless of the response (which I can confirm was positive). We must continue to educate ourselves and support those around us when it comes to neurodiversity.

The most underrated way to get more opportunities? Talk to more people. Here's my proof: 2022: One conversation sparked an idea that changed my entire career. 2023: One conversation led to me launching a podcast. 2024: One conversation led to me speaking at the biggest legal tech event in Europe. Some of my best ideas have been sparked by the most unexpected chats. Opportunities don’t come from luck. They come from people. From conversations. Showing up. ?? Talk to more people. It could change your life. PS. online or offline conversations? ??? AI won’t replace lawyers. But lawyers who use AI may replace those who don’t. Many lawyers still resist technology. They see AI as a threat instead of a tool. They cling to old systems. Believing experience alone will keep them relevant. ?? That mindset is dangerous. The firms embracing AI are moving faster, serving clients better, and cutting costs. AI won’t replace the need for legal expertise, but it will change how legal work gets done. In the latest episode of More Than A Lawyer, I'm sitting down with Valentin Feklistov and Alexander Bitskov, founders of FutureLaw Conference. We discuss how the future of law is changing, beyond AI and why it is more vital than ever for lawyers and legal firms to educate themselves on changes to come. ?? How I made 100+ podcast episodes in 1 year (Most people quit after 3 episodes) It's this: Small, consistent steps that added up. Week after week, I made tiny adjustments: – Tweaking the format. – Asking better questions. – Improving the audio, bit by bit. – Improving the style & structure. – Creating more meaningful conversations. Nothing drastic. Just 1% improvements. Over & over again. That’s how growth really happens. Not in one big leap, but in the quiet, steady progress that compounds over time. 100+ episodes later, here’s what I've learned: ?? Trust that the small steps will take you further than you ever imagined. ??? PS. I used to think I needed stress for success. The trade-offs: Hustle = exhaustion Success = sacrificing health & happiness Productivity = being busy, not effective Then I made well-being my competitive advantage. The change: - Built a career that fuels me, not drains me. - Chose my work environments wisely. - Focused on deep work. - Prioritised movement. - Prioritised joy. Now? I work with energy, not exhaustion. I measure impact, not hours. I lead with clarity, not chaos. Burnout isn’t a badge of honour. Sustainable success is the real goal. ??? In the latest episode of More Than A Lawyer, I chat with Grace Williams, ex White & Case solicitor turned health and nutrition expert. In this new well-being in law mini series, we start with how lawyers can realistically manage & lower stress in their careers. ?? Listen now here: https://lnkd.in/eSgiuVCe

  • Quitting your job is not the solution to stress This is: Law will always be high-pressure. The stakes are high. The expectations are relentless. The demands are constant. It’s part of the industry. But here’s the truth: It’s not the external pressure that will determine our future, it's how we manage stress internally. It’s about how we choose to navigate it. Managing stress isn’t about avoiding it, it’s about creating the right systems, habits, and mindset to function at our best, even in the most intense moments. It’s about resilience. It’s about self-awareness. It’s about balance. Because the real cost of stress in law is not in the moments of pressure, but in the long-term toll it takes on our well-being when we don’t manage it. The future of law isn’t about who can handle the most pressure. Let’s start prioritising sustainable success, where stress is not the enemy, but a challenge we face with intention, strength, and purpose. In the latest episode of More Than A Lawyer, I sit down with ex-White & Case solicitor turned health & nutrition expert Grace Williams. We talk about how lawyers can realistically manage stress in such a high-pressure industry. ?? Listen now
