In the late 1800s worked a young entrepreneur in the swamps of the Texas gulf. HIs name was Patillo Higgins. Armed with no formal schooling he was a a logger turned brick manufacturer. Ever curious, his business sparked interest in oil & gas, as he used it for his kilns to burn bricks evenly. Inspired by the rumors of its booming oil and the mystery of John D. Rockefeller, he traveled to?Pennsylvania?to learn about fuels and study the geographical features that give signs to the presence of underground oil. He became a "self-taught geologist" by poring through all the?US Geological Survey?reports and books that he could find and fixated on the prospect of drilling in the salt domes back home in Bueamont, Texas. ???? Bold and in a hurry, he failed twice and lost money in two drilling ventures. Despite skepticism and numerous setbacks, his persistence laid the foundation for what would become a historic breakthrough. ?? With the help of Captain Anthony Lucas, the Gussey brothers and the legendary Andrew Mellon backing him, the Lucas Gusher erupted in January 1901, marking the dawn of the Texas oil boom. This singular event not only birthed giants like Gulf Oil and Texaco but also transformed oil from a rare commodity into the lifeblood of modern industry. Today, America stands as the undisputed largest energy producer on God's planet Earth, all tying back to the enterprising spirit of one man.
