Our Seattle based Morehouse School of Medicine Regional Medical Campus is recruiting for an administrative assistant that will serve as a critical part of our team on this exciting initiative to created a regional medical campus for our medical students. This position is the heart and hub connecting our clinical and community outreach activities for the area. You will work with leadership in higher education institutions, community organizations and more. Veronica Mallett led our team at Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) #LearnServeLead2024 Conference in Atlanta, GA. It was four days of sessions designed to help us continue our, Morehouse School of Medicine, and CommonSpirit Health #mission of #healthequity through learning from the best and brightest #healtheducators in the country. Our own Dr. Kevin Smith was a panelist presenting on the great work we are doing to establish Regional Medical Campuses like the one being led by Gloria Ríchard-Davis, MD, MBA, FACOG, MSCP in #MiCASeattle. We are looking forward to applying what we learned to lead us into 2025 and beyond!

The #MiCAAtlanta team had such a great experience at Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Conference in Atlanta. The #LearnServeLead2024 conference was a huge success. It began with a #reception featuring representative from Morehouse School of Medicine, CommonSpirit Health, and Creighton University. As we shared food, we discussed our common #mission of increasing #healthequity through the education and training of #culturallyhumble practitioners. A special thanks goes to our hosts at #SouthernNational restaurant in the #Summerhill neighborhood in Atlanta. It featured fine dining from a The James Beard Foundation award winning chef. It really set our purpose at the conference and prepared us to do #MoreIn2024!

Today, we are excited for you to learn more about CAO of More in Common Alliance, Veronica Mallett! In her over 25 years of leadership experience, she has served as Fellowship Director, Residency Director, Director of Healthcare Excellence, Practice Plan Director, and Department Chair at Wayne State, University of Tennessee Memphis, and Texas Tech. respectively. Dr. Mallett has received several leadership awards; including 2022 Athena Award, the Nashville Business Journal Women of Influence 2020, the Nashville Medical News 2018 Woman to Watch, and Nashville Healthcare Council fellow. Social media provides people a platform to make their thoughts, feelings, and opinions known. However, social media doesn't make or enforce the laws that have an impact on the lives of communities across the nation. If you haven't already, please take the opportunity to exercise your civic duty and vote. It is the best way to share your opinion about how you want your community to be. You won't even need a hashtag. Nov. 5 is #ElectionDay.

One of the many ways #healthequity can be addressed, particularly in underrepresented communities, is to educate and train more culturally humble physicians and/or providers who are from those communities. This article summarizes one of the challenges aspiring HBCU students face as they are trying to enter healthcare. HBCUs produce a vast number of medical applicants and, by training physicians. Barriers to medical school admission can, knowingly or unknowingly, have an impact on the health of entire communities. Specifically, the article states, "By not addressing barriers for undergraduate students at HBCUs, medical schools and the medical field at large are missing critical opportunities to welcome unique insights into their communities and in the field of medicine." Increased admission can accelerate the eradication of medical myths, increase preventative care, and lower the burden on emergency care in certain communities.
