MorDance, a trailblazing women-led ballet company, champions artistry and challenges tradition through original collaborative works committed to providing access to dance performance and education. Our conception of artistic excellence is inseparable from the company’s dedication to accessibility and creativity. We envision an equitable future where everyone, no matter one’s background, identity, or socio-economic circumstance, has the opportunity to access the arts. MorDance believes that dance, and art at large, has the great potential to navigate the complexities faced by our society and our world. Our 2022 season was filled with surpassed goals, impactful collaborations and performances, and new audiences touched by the art of ballet. MorDance’s commitment to greater accessibility in the arts continues to be at the forefront of our initiatives. In 2022, we increased our youth outreach by 33%, connecting with over 600 students through in-school dance workshops in some of NYC's most underserved school districts. Though COVID restrictions remained in place for our annual student performance, and public school field trips were put on hold this spring, we were able to work with a team of videographers to livestream the event. The livestream allowed us to significantly expand our reach and continue to bring the art of ballet to life for these young audiences. This year our Spring Season performances rose to new levels of critical acclaim. Jerry Hochman of Critical Dance writes, “MorDance's New York season, scheduled for two nights last week at Symphony Space on the Upper West Side, was, to put it mildly, a knockout". Success followed to our final showcase of the year, MorDance Works In Progress, which sold out! As we near a milestone in 2023, MorDance’s tenth season as a company, we are ready to take our mission to new heights.

Rising Rents Are Forcing MorDance to Build a New Home in Yonkers – Help Us Build It! Over the past year, MorDance has doubled our budget, quadrupled our programming, and expanded access to world class dance performances that inspire and unite, along with dance education for children and communities who need it most. We are incredibly proud to celebrate our Founder and Artistic Director, Morgan McEwen, who has been honored as one of Westchester County's 40 Under 40 Rising Stars this week! Reflecting on this milestone, Morgan shares: "Early on in my almost twenty-year career as a dancer, I never imagined stepping into a leadership role in the industry. That perspective began to shift when I was involved in union negotiations in my early twenties, and grew even stronger when I realized I wanted to be a trailblazer in advancing equity and making the art form I love more accessible on every level to our community. Now, as I stand at the helm of MorDance, working to create art that inspires, educates, and unites communities, I understand the critical importance of my role as Artistic and Executive Director, and the need to advocate for artists and the arts both locally and beyond. We must remember that the arts not only enrich the health and well-being of our communities but are also a powerful economic force, contributing 4.5% to our nation's GDP." Morgan's leadership has been transformative for MorDance, from launching free after-school programs for under resourced youth to presenting critically acclaimed sold-out performances. We are thrilled to announce that Senator Gillibrand has recommended MorDance for $4.491 million in congressionally directed spending! This significant funding will help us transform our Yonkers space into a premier performing arts center. What is congressionally directed spending? CDS is when members of Congress request federal funds be set aside for specific projects in their states. Senator Gillibrand has recommended this funding for us to purchase and transform our Yonkers Space into a premier performing arts center. What comes next?
