    Performance Max campaigns have a hidden setting (that can waste your budget) Did you know? -> “Presence or Interest” targeting for locations is enabled by default -> There is no option to change this during setup In most campaign types, you can adjust this setting upfront. But in Performance Max, you’re forced to accept it! Why does this matter? -> “Presence or Interest” spends your budget in locations where you don’t actually operate -> Your ads will show in different cities, states, or even countries -> This wastes ad spend if your product/service isn’t available in those areas Here’s the fix: 1. Publish the campaign first 2. Go back into settings and switch to “Presence-only” Testing “Presence or Interest” CAN make sense if: 1. You’re aware of it from the start 2.     Did you know? Not all Quality Score (QS) factors carry the same weight. (This should change how you prioritize QS optimization!) Google Ads assigns a score of Below Average, Average, or Above Average to the 3 factors: -> Ad Relevance -> Expected Click-Through Rate (CTR) -> Landing Page Experience But here’s what most advertisers don’t realize. These scores have numerical values: -> Ad Relevance: 0, 1, 2 -> Expected CTR: 0, 1.75, 3.5 -> Landing Page Experience: 0, 1.75, 3.5 Takeaway: Expected CTR and Landing Page Experience are nearly 2x more important than Ad Relevance.     Have you tested this new PMax strategy? ???????? ?????? ???????????????????? ?????????????????????? Recently, we've seen multiple Google Reps pushing this strategy ?????? ?????????????????? ???? ???? ??????????????: -> Competitor Brand Names -> Competitor URLs - home pages -> Competitor URLs - checkout/cart pages I don't always jump on recommendations from Google Reps However, this strategy does intrigue me for Lead Gen I'm planning on testing this on a handful of accounts, since competitor search campaigns don't always work well One idea would be to pair this with a script to add non-competitor terms automatically to a negative keyword list Edit: as Adrian Duske pointed out, it's definitely a good idea to make sure you don't have any dynamic / automatically-created assets enabled for this strategy -> That could unintentionally lead to using your competitors' brand names in your ad copy, potentially causing a Trademark Policy violation ??     Almost every marketer agrees that testing is important. ?????? ?????? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????????????????? ???? ?? ?????????? ????????????? Don't use the same testing strategy for: -A campaign with 1,000 conversions per month vs. -A campaign with 10 conversions per month Instead, here are tips on how to effectively test with limited budget (& data): 1. ???????? ????????-???????????? ???????????????? ?????????? -> Swing for the fences instead of minor changes -> You want to test changes that can win by 50%, 100%, 200%, etc -> Example: Test a version of your Landing Page with a completely different above-fold section 2. ???????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???????????????? -> Instead of using a standard 30-day test duration, extend the end date -> In Google Ads, you can use a maximum Experiment duration of 84 days -> Pro-Tip: As Bob Meijer pointed out, there's currently a workaround even to extend this past the 84-day window 3. ???????? ?????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????? -> Test similar elements across multiple channels to accumulate data quicker -> Example: Test a new Landing Page on both Google & Meta -> Pro-Tip: Check that the difference in performance isn't just due to different percentages of sessions from each channel in the test vs control -> i.e. Make sure the test isn't 75% Google Ads sessions when the Control was only 50% Google Ads sessions PS: Do you think your Marketing campaigns should be performing better than they are? If you're not doing this, there's a chance that you have inflated conversion data that can lead smart bidding astray. How does it work? Go to your preferred place to test Conversion Tracking. -> We recommend Google Tag Manager (GTM) Preview Mode Now, instead of only testing actions for where your tag??????????????fire, I would also test situations where your tag????????????? ?????? ????????. For example, on a Contact Form, you should also test your tag to confirm it ??????????’?? fire when required information is missing from the form! If the tag fires when it's not supposed to, you'll have to dig in and see what adjustments need to be made. Are you testing for false positives when setting up tracking? ??     Not sure how to properly structure Google Ads for your service business? Launching with this simple account structure will set you up for: -> Quick Results -> Intuitive Optimization -> Long-Term Scalability For businesses driving 500 - 1,000 clicks per month, I start off with 1 - 3 campaigns: 1. Search Campaign 2. Display Remarketing Campaign (sometimes) 3. Brand Campaign (sometimes) Your top priority should be properly structuring your ad groups within the Search campaign, as this campaign will be your biggest lever for driving new leads. Ideally, you want a seamless experience where: -> People see an ad that is perfectly relevant to what they searched -> People land on a page that is exactly what they were expecting when they clicked your ad If you're already running Display Remarketing through a Programmatic Display DSP like StackAdapt, then don't run this in Google Ads. You don't always need to run a Brand Search campaign, but you should definitely test this if: 1. You have competitors/affiliates heavily advertising on your brand searches, and you’re seeing a drop in organic branded clicks 2. You want to drive people to a different landing page or use different messaging than what comes up organically for branded searches ??
