Yeah, us too. Right as we were getting ready to launch Moon Drops, the world decided to press pause. But did we let that stop us? Heck no! When the pandemic shut down manufacturing, we saw a chance to do something bigger—support our economy by keeping everything we could local. Call it stubbornness, call it love for our community… we call it doing the right thing. Every great distillery has a heart, and ours is named Big Mama. Standing a glorious 14 feet tall, this copper beauty came to us from Louisville, Kentucky. Big Mama isn’t just a still; she’s a promise to distill the best-quality spirits while supporting American craftsmanship. When it comes to ingredients, we keep it local. Our grain come from a supplier who sources directly from farmers who might as well be our neighbors. That means every sip of Moon Drops is infused with a little Indiana sunshine and a lot of Hoosier grit. You can almost taste the community spirit… or maybe that’s the rye. You know that moment when you pop open a fresh bottle, and it’s perfectly sealed, labeled, and ready to pour? That’s all thanks to American-made equipment. The filler, the labeler, the boxes, and even the shrink wrap all come from businesses across the U.S. Yeah, we’re serious about this whole “Made in America” thing. Sure, we could cut corners, outsource parts of our process, and save a few bucks. But that’s not who we are. Every bottle of Moon Drops is an act of love and pride. One of the greatest disciplines in the aged spirits industry is patience. Everything takes time. We’re always “waiting”. Our very own bourbon is aging in our rick house, with our oldest barrels going on their third year (it’s been a long 3 years!). Boy, are we happy with where the flavors are heading, but it’s not ready yet. Patience. While we’ve been waiting, we’ve also been playing around with Barrel Finishes - taking our sourced bourbon and aging it in previously used barrels to shape its flavor, enhance the complexities, and create uniqueness. In a couple weeks, we’ll be launching our first Tawny Port Barrel-Finished Bourbon. We think it’s pretty special and it provides us with an opportunity to share our craft. We’re proud of our head distiller, Hank and founder, Mark, for their patience in bringing this to peak flavor at the right moment. So wait with us. “Liquid to lips” – it’s a tantalizing phrase but one that is at the core of the beverage industry. Introducing your products to the public is no easy feat.?Even the most captivating packaging may not impel someone to buy.?One step into an aisle of a liquor store can be an overwhelming endeavor. So how do we do it??Samplings, in-store tastings, festivals.?Getting your product literally “on the lips” (or in the mouth) of your potential consumer is tantamount to selling your product and growing a loyal following. It's at these events that we can share our story, make personal connections, and talk about our product in ways that labels can’t.?Many a man- and woman-hours are spent at these events by the creators/founders, sales teams, and employees to provide the “liquid to lips’ experience. With that, we’re hosting our first on-site craft beverage festival on June 1st at our Distillery in Fortville.?We’ve invited over 20 craft beverage makers from Indiana to come and sample their products. We’re promoting more than just Moon Drops Distillery – we’re promoting the brotherhood of the small, artisanal maker of spirits, beer and wine. Our goal is for everyone in attendance to go home with newly discovered favorites.?When local wins, we all win.
