In the piece, “Evolution of the Cubicle: Do You Have to Work Outside the Box to Think Outside the Box?,” for officeinsight magazine, our Workplace Practice Leader Caren Foster and Senior Interior Designer Jill Seitz share their insights on the evolution of the traditional workstation or cubicle. ? Starting with the central question -?What if your workplace inspired creativity, fostered wellness, increased productivity, reduced stress, and optimized real estate investment? – Caren and Jill have used client feedback to guide workplace projects such as the Gilbane Building Company’s office in Columbus, OH. ? With workstations being essential for individual or focused work, the design must intuitively communicate where interruptions and distractions are welcome. These stations should function as “zones” or “neighborhoods,” with visual or auditory barriers from active zones such as plants and screens between workstations and busy centers. Sound absorptive surfaces like carpet and acoustic foam, sound masking (ambient background sound), and access to noise canceling technology like headphones can help reduce distractions. ? For Gilbane, the new office design features a blend of open and private workspaces, a work café, a social lounge, and a spacious visual design and technology studio. Being a construction company with most staff working in the field, team members can choose from a variety of ancillary stations to work (sit, stand, gather) while when they are in the office. ? In collaboration with Gensler, we are excited to design a terminal (John Glenn Columbus International Airport) that anticipates the needs of future travelers and sets the state for decades to come. Thank you, Mark Williams of The Columbus Dispatch, for speaking with our CEO Jonathan Moody, and others involved in the project about the future of airport design in Columbus, OH, and beyond. ? "We have to move in an actionable way, not to accommodate 2024 needs, but really we're talking about 2030, 2040 and 2050,” said Moody. ? Columbus Regional Airport Authority Gensler ? #MoodyNolanColumbus #AviationDesign #AirportDesign #JohnGlennColumbus
Columbus Regional Airport Authority President and CEO?Joe Nardone believes the current?terminal has seen better days: Repair costs are adding up, parts are harder to come by and the terminal lacks the modern features that passengers and airlines expect. Nardone recently shared with the Dispatch's Mark Williams, "It is time for a new?terminal. To keep this old terminal, to continue spending money on an asset that is past its useful life, is foolish." Therefore, the airport authority is set to begin construction on a new $2 billion terminal early in 2025, officially starting work on a project that airport officials have talked about for?more than a decade.
