This month, MSE was honored to host Charmaine Yemurai Chamboko, a delegate from the ESPNW and State Department's Global Sports Mentoring Program. Currently serving as Secretary General of the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe, she worked closely with her mentorship team at MSE to create an action plan focused on improving athlete welfare?and advancing the role of women in sports on a global scale.

Incredible to see the Washington Capitals Street Hockey Extravaganza welcome kids to the world of hockey almost 50 years after the inaugural event! I can’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate the team’s 50th Anniversary season. This event has evolved tremendously since the ‘70s, alongside the Capitals’ commitment to giving back and creating opportunities for the kids in our communities. Sports can play an integral role in shaping our values – I know this firsthand. It’s a privilege for our teams to pass values like teamwork, grit, hustle, and love for the game to the next generation. #ALLCAPS

This week, the Washington Mystics President’s Circle initiative partnered with the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) to host the empowering event "Play to Lead: The Impact of Sports on Women’s Leadership." Alycen McAuley (Chief Business Officer, Mystics) and Danette Leighton (Chief Executive Officer, WSF) led an insightful conversation on the critical impact of sports on women’s leadership. ? The event featured brand-new research from WSF that enhanced understanding of the current landscape for girls in sports, while providing actionable policy and recommendations to champion the next generation of female leaders.

The 2024 Washington Mystics’ season shattered viewership records. We saw an increase of in-game viewership by 139% across the entire DC market, and a remarkable 90% rise in unique digital viewers on Monumental Sports Network alone. And that’s for just one singular team in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association)! My takeaway? This is just the beginning. Nearly 20 years after we took over ownership of the Mystics, our vision is becoming a reality, and the rest of the world is catching on. It’s incredible to see. We’re proud champions of women’s sports across leagues at Monumental Sports & Entertainment. I’m thrilled for what’s ahead.?

Over 80 high school educators from the D.C. area gained firsthand insights into rewarding careers in the skilled trades at the Crafting Futures event on October 16. Hosted at District E Powered By Ticketmaster in partnership with Clark Construction Group, the initiative highlighted alternative pathways for students beyond the traditional college route. ? Attendees toured Clark’s 600 Fifth project site and engaged with industry leaders, including Clark’s CEO Robby Moser and our President of Venues, Jordan Silberman. The event showcased the vital role of skilled professionals in shaping our nation's infrastructure and emphasized the growing opportunities within the construction industry. ? We were thrilled to collaborate with Clark Construction for this impactful event and extend our gratitude to all the educators dedicated to guiding the next generation toward fulfilling careers. Together, we're building a stronger community and opening doors to new possibilities.
