On March 7, 1965, civil rights leaders and nonviolent activists marched for voting rights—only to be met with brutal violence on Bloody Sunday. Among them was photojournalist James “Spider” Martin, whose powerful images exposed the reality of voter suppression and helped galvanize the nation.
