A little national recognition for one of our favorite projects! The American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York recognized Tom Lee Park's redesign with an "honor" award in urban design. A jury of architects, educators, and planners chose this year's AIA award winners in architecture, interiors, projects, and urban design categories. The jury said Tom Lee Park was one of the highest-scoring projects across the board: “We felt like it was transformational for the city and is really delivering on its ambition of reconnecting the city with the Mississippi River. We were extremely impressed by the extensive community engagement. We saw the relationship between the community engagement and design in how the final product unfolded. We saw their ambition as a civic park as well — they talked about creating a common ground — and we thought that translated to the way the architecture team and landscape architecture team collaborated, to where you almost can’t tell what might’ve been done by the architect and the landscape architect and where those boundaries end. We thought that was a really powerful message."
