Many housing development projects approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board sit unbuilt in the county's Development Pipeline, some for years and years. We're embarking on a new effort to see what's going on. We'll be interviewing developers about what's stopping their progress, and we'll be analyzing current conditions project by project for emerging trends. Getting projects moving off the pipeline and into construction can help address the county's housing shortage. Learn more about the pipeline and some of the projects stuck in it by watching Planning Director Jason Sartori's comprehensive Feb. 27 briefing to the Planning Board on our Development Pipeline Analysis: https://bit.ly/4h5gFN0 We also invite you to read our new Third Place blog by Lisa Govoni about pipeline misperceptions; it includes a brief pipeline explanatory YouTube video featuring Deputy Director Robert Kronenberg: https://bit.ly/3EZlryl

关于我们
Montgomery Planning examines the past and present to plan for the brightest possible future for Montgomery County and its residents. Our research and expertise are informed by the needs and realities of the public to plan, design and enhance the best use of the county’s land and related resources. Montgomery Planning’s recommendations ensure that communities are designed and equipped to keep pace with the way we live, work and play now and decades from now. WHAT WE DO In brief, Montgomery Planning develops plans and sets policies to ensure that we have what we need as Montgomery County grows while preserving what’s good about what’s already in place. We do that through: ? Cutting-edge research ? Development of visionary plans ? Reviewing development applications ? Land use and zoning regulations ? Historic preservation ? Services for homeowners and landowners OUR STRUCTURE While Montgomery Planning is responsible for developing plans in Montgomery County, we’re not part of Montgomery County government, and we’re independent of the County Executive and County Council. We are part of The Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), a state agency. M-NCPPC is the organization behind the brown signs you see around the county, especially in parks (and Montgomery Planning plans for those parks!) This unique structure allows the Planning Department to make independent, non-partisan recommendations for the good of the community to the Montgomery County Planning Board, County Council and other elected officials. In the 1970s, when girls in Iran were largely deemed unworthy of a college education, Mitra Pedoeem became the only woman in her class of 60 students at Tehran University’s Civil Engineering College. Today, she’s an accomplished female leader with decades in public service. She’s also the vice chair, and only female member, of the Montgomery County Planning Board. As we begin celebrating #WomensHistoryMonth in March, we chatted with Mitra about her early life in Iran, her planning priorities for Montgomery County, and her advice to young women: “Find what you are passionate about and pursue it with confidence.” Read our Q&A with Mitra: https://lnkd.in/ebdYYzV8

During our annual briefing to state legislators with the Planning Board and Montgomery Parks earlier this month, our director Jason Sartori showed how difficult it is to be a first-time homeowner in Montgomery County --housing prices in each zip code have drastically outpaced inflation and income growth in the last two decades. Montgomery County needs more housing that's affordable to more middle-class residents. Part of the Montgomery County Council's More Housing N.O.W. proposal includes incentives for more office-to-residential conversions. Our Research and Strategic Projects Division recently released the county's latest office-vacancy data with the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. See how it stacks up in the DMV. #HousingCrisis https://lnkd.in/gfJDmRJA
