The Montgomery County ESC Student Advisory Delegation had its first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year today, and the delegates delved into all things financial - personal, and school-wise. They explored the relationship between money and education to learn how funding impacts students in Montgomery County. An education policy and funding panel, including Tony Thomas (Superintendent of Northmont City Schools), Tiffany Hiser (Executive Director of the Shared Resource Center), and Megan Sparks (Centerville City Schools Board Member), shared knowledge and answered the tough questions from these students. Questions like, “How are private schools financed?” and “Why do some school districts opt for income taxes and others go for property taxes?” There was a lot of discussion and interest in education policy and decision-making. These delegates were presented with information regarding financial decisions that lay ahead after high school. Ashley Overman (MCESC College Access Coordinator) provided insights on how financial aid, both need-based and merit-based, can impact their choices. They were encouraged to make informed decisions as they think about the future lifestyle they want to have. One goal of this program is to provide student voice to the overall educational system. Today, these delegates made their voices heard as they asked questions and provided insightful feedback to the adults in the room. Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA)

Congratulations to one of the most impactful influences on my career, Dr. Tom Lasley for an award so very well deserved. Thank you to the Presidents Club for honoring our friend, colleague, and all around great human on a legacy of servant leadership. It was a beautiful ceremony. The words spoken by Jeffrey J Mims Jr, Debbie Lieberman, Andrea White, Tom Young, Phil Plummer, Willis Blackshear Jr, John McManus, Dr. Derrick L. Foward, and others were spot on about Tom's contributions to our community. (Oh, and today was declared Tom Lasley Day in Kettering and Dayton!) We will forever be better for having Tom in our lives! #weareMCESC Montgomery County Educational Service Center Learn to Earn Dayton
