Yesterday was awesome! The artist workshop & Community conversation "Women Unite the Cities" hosted by the Minnesota Historical Society/History Center had a great turnout. Thank you to Chloe, Rita & the Native American Initiatives Department for coordinating these efforts for the community. Thank you to Verna for sharing beloved details & inspiration behind Native Women Run, as well as the Native Women Run squad who supported. Thank you to our Ho-Chunk bestie, Haley, for supporting. Thank you to Coach Ty & the Lady Legends for taking a field trip to enjoy the Girlhood (it's complicated) exhibit & beading with Brook & Janice! We love you all! • Check out this Author Talk: Children’s books with Art Coulson and Nicholas DeShaw! Nicholas is a awesome parent of our children's house & does great work around language revitalization particularly with our youngest learners! From the podcast: From graphic novels to picture books, the possibilities are endless in sharing the Native perspective in children’s books. In our latest episode, Allison sits down with local Native authors Art Coulson (Cherokee) and Nicholas DeShaw (Bois Forte Ojibwe) to discuss the importance of Native representation in children’s literature. Art is the author of 20 books, graphic novels and plays, and Nicholas has written fiction for all ages, from sci-fi to picture books. They explore the value of graphic novels, their shared love for Indigenous lacrosse, preview their new and upcoming books, and more.
