  • Join Robert M. Bilder, PhD at Emerging Themes in Behavioral Health April 30- May 2, 2025 at UCLA. Dr. Bilder’s research focuses on dimensional approaches to understanding mental disorders and the continua that bridge from mental illness to healthy states and exceptional cognitive abilities. Dr. Bilder directs the Tennenbaum Center for the Biology of Creativity, the NIMH-sponsored National Neuropsychology Network, and the National Endowment for the Arts Research Lab at UCLA. He also serves as Co-PI of an NIMH study examining the neural correlates of “positive valence systems” using fMRI and online behavioral assessments. Dr. Bilder is Chief of the Division of Psychology within the Department of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences in the David Geffen School of Medicine, which currently involves approximately 160 psychology faculty and staff, and approximately 100 trainees at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels. Dr. Bilder has been awarded diplomate status by the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Bilder is a Clinical Neuropsychologist who has been actively engaged for over 35 years in research on the neuroanatomic and neuropsychological bases of major mental illnesses. He has received many awards for his research contributions, served on diverse federal and international advisory boards, provided editorial service to many scholarly journals, and received multiple grants from the NIH, private foundations, and industry. His work has been presented in more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and 400 scientific presentations.   • Join Noah Phillips, MD at Emerging Themes in Behavioral Health April 30- May 2, 2025 at UCLA. Noah S. Philip MD is a Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is the founding Section Chief of Psychiatric Neuromodulation at VA Providence, and is Lead for Mental Health Research at the VA Center for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology. Dr. Philip has received awards and recognition from the American Psychiatric Association, Society for Biological Psychiatry, American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and others. He has been funded through grants from the VA, NIMH, NIDA, Department of Defense, the Focused Ultrasound and Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (2024 Distinguished Investigator Award) and through industry and small-business collaborations.   • Join Albert “Skip” Rizzo, PhD at Emerging Themes in Behavioral Health April 30- May 2, 2025 at UCLA. Albert “Skip” Rizzo, PhD, is a clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist and director of medical virtual reality at the University of Southern California (USC) Institute for Creative Technologies. He is also a research professor with the USC Department of Psychiatry and the USC Davis School of Gerontology. Skip conducts research on the design, development, and evaluation of virtual reality (VR) systems targeting the areas of clinical assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation across the domains of psychological, cognitive, and motor functioning in both healthy and clinical populations. In this work, he has focused on posttraumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Alzheimer disease, stroke, and other clinical conditions. In spite of the diversity of these clinical research and development areas, the common thread that drives all of his work with digital technologies involves the study of how interactive and immersive virtual reality simulations can be usefully applied to address human healthcare needs beyond what is possible with traditional 20th-century tools and methods. In 2010, he received the American Psychological Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Practice of Trauma Psychology, and in 2012, the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Satava Award for excellence in the use of VR for therapeutic applications. In 2015, he received the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics Pioneer in Medicine Award, presented to individuals who have significantly contributed to the scientific advancement in the fields of medicine through a multidisciplinary approach.     Join Dr. Timothy Fong at Emerging Themes in Behavioral Health April 30- May 2, 2025 at UCLA. Dr. Fong is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. Dr. Fong completed his undergraduate and medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago. He then came to UCLA and finished his residency in adult general psychiatry in 2002 and was the first accredited addiction psychiatry fellow at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute (2002-2004). He is the co-director of the UCLA Gambling Studies Program (UGSP). The purpose of this program is to examine the underlying causes and clinical characteristics of gambling disorder in order to develop effective, evidence-based treatment strategies. Since 2009, he has been the director of the UCLA Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship, a one-year accredited program that provides clinical training in addiction psychiatry. Finally, he is part of the faculty leadership of the UCLA Cannabis Research Initiative, a multidisciplinary effort to examine the full impact of cannabis on the body, mind and brain.
