Inmates at Montana State Prison are ready to share their stories and how their choices made an impact on their life in the DOC’s new youth outreach program “Choices in the 406.” The #MTCorrections program is an opportunity for inmates to share their “been there, done that” life experience with Montana youth who may be dealing with similar life challenges. Inmates have spoken at youth rehabilitation centers and high schools. Contact us today if you’re interested in having the Choices in the 406 program come to you!?

At the Montana Women’s Prison in Billings, inmates can work in textile service jobs for Montana Correctional Enterprises. They can learn how to screen print and use professional six-head industrial embroidery machines. Each product and service purchased through MCE provides offenders with the opportunity to learn marketable job and life skills, a work ethic and a sense of pride, all of which assists them upon release to become productive employees, good neighbors and tax-paying citizens. #MTCorrections

Life is all about choices, and inmates involved in #MTCorrections “Choices in the 406” program hope they can encourage Montana youth to make better choices than they did. The new youth outreach program brings inmates into schools and youth juvenile centers to share their stories. Inmate participants said they are happy to give back to the community and hope their words resonate with the students. Watch for a follow-up video coming soon!?

One way offenders reintegrate back into Montana communities is through community supervision after leaving a secure facility. With the guidance and support of Probation and Parole officers, offenders abide by the conditions of their supervision and learn to be accountable. One offender under the supervision of PO Abby Martin likes to draw pictures on his calendar to remind himself when he is scheduled to meet with her. #MTCorrections

Inmates at our DOC-run secure facilities can apply for a variety of jobs through Montana Correctional Enterprises. In the agriculture program, offenders can apply to be a member of the “Cowboy Crew” and work with MCE’s cattle herds at Montana State Prison. While with the Cowboy Crew, inmates help daily with caring for the cattle but also gain soft skills like cooperation and listening. #MTCorrections

Last night, students from the Culinary Arts Program at Passages Prerelease Center took center stage at a reception at the Capitol. The aspiring chefs showed off their skills as they prepared an assortment of appetizers for legislators and other state leaders. The program, which includes classroom instruction and in-house food service experience, equips students with the skills to work in the restaurant industry. Congrats to the students on another successful reception at the Capitol! #MTCorrections
