Today is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, also known as End Racism Day. It is observed annually on this day in remembrance of the tragic killing of 69 people during a peaceful anti-apartheid protest in Sharpeville, South Africa, on March 21st, 1960. The UN proclaimed this day in 1966 as a call to the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. This day serves as a call to action to advance equality and fight against racism.
