Broadening Financial Literacy with a Multi-Disciplinary, Teacher-Friendly Approach ?? How can educators make financial literacy engaging without becoming financial experts? In her recent post, Jennifer Degenhardt discusses how Moneyling’s Week of Financial Literacy Program tackles key challenges faced by teachers: ?? Relevance & Engagement: Financial concepts are presented through relatable, story-based lessons integrated across subjects, so students apply knowledge to real-life situations. ?? Teacher-Friendly Approach: With teacher shortages nationwide, Moneyling leverages teachers' strengths in existing subjects like math, English, and social studies, making financial literacy an effortless addition to their curriculum. ?? Combating the Forgetting Curve: By embedding financial concepts across multiple subjects and revisiting them throughout the year, students retain and build on their knowledge over time. ?? Sustainable Impact: Moneyling helps schools enhance their current financial literacy offerings through collaboration with local financial experts, creating a win-win solution without overburdening teachers. For schools already implementing financial literacy, partnering with Moneyling is, as students say, a no-brainer. ?? Referenced article: Personal Finance Courses Are Booming. There is already a teacher shortage in the United States. Given the way the system is set up, the prospect of finding the tens of thousands of teachers needed to teach financial literacy is daunting, and quite frankly, the chances are slim. Conceived with the educator in mind, Moneyling has devised a cross-curricular program that allows subject-area teachers to present financial literacy information within the contexts of their areas of expertise, be that math, language arts or even science. The key is repetition. As learning anything new, the more times students are exposed to the content, the more likely they are to remember. To internalize that content, it needs to be presented in context and at students' age, maturity and academic level. Moneyling's Week of Financial Literacy addresses all of the above. We welcome you to check out our program by visiting our website: www.moneyling.org. If you have contacts with middle schools or banks that may want to partner with us, please pass along our information. We at Moneyling are passionate about helping rewrite history by providing useful and accessible information to those for whom it can be useful (read: everyone!).
