You don't need to learn about MI, right??

5 Reasons You Absolutely, 100% Don’t Need to Learn Motivational Interviewing If any of these apply to you, feel free to scroll past this post. No need to sign up for Motivational Interviewing Bootcamp: MI for Advisors. Reason #1: Your clients are already motivated. In fact, their motivation meters are maxed out. They take every suggestion you make and implement it without hesitation. Honestly, they might have too much motivation. Reason #2: You prefer a directing approach. Why guide when you can just tell? You’re the expert. Your clients pay you to tell them what to do—and they do it, no questions asked. Reason #3: You don’t need to ask better questions. You’re already a communication master. Open-ended questions, reflections, drawing out insights? You’ve got that covered. Reason #4: Your clients never feel conflicted. They always know exactly what they want. No hesitations, no mixed feelings—just pure certainty. And if they do feel two ways about something, that’s totally fine with you. Reason #5: You don’t need to be a better listener. You’ve already perfected the art of listening. Active listening, reflective listening—nailed it. No room for improvement here. But if these reasons don’t quite describe your reality… If you’ve ever had a client hesitate, struggle with implementing advice, or wrestle with financial decisions, Motivational Interviewing can help. Motivational Interviewing Bootcamp: MI for Advisors → Learn how to guide, not just direct. → Draw out what truly matters to your clients. → Help them move through ambivalence and take action. If that sounds like something you’d benefit from, check it out. Hope to see you there! Registration: https://lnkd.in/gc84mUjp P.S. This post was inspired by Kyle Moore, CFP?'s recent post: https://lnkd.in/gtah7hmB

Fractional Financial Behavior Officer for Firms ?? | Speaker ??? | Host of Planning & Beyond? ???

Understanding the psychology behind client decisions isn't just fascinating - it's transformative for your practice. That's why I'm thrilled to share my conversation with Derek F. Hagen in this week's episode. As the Director of Education at Money Quotient and a financial behavior specialist, Derek breaks down motivational interviewing in a way that perfectly bridges psychological insights with practical financial planning. We explore: ? Why clients can want two opposing things at once (and why that's completely normal!) ? How to resist the "righting reflex" that makes us jump in with solutions too quickly ? The "four S's" framework that will transform your client conversations ? Practical ways to implement these techniques in different meeting contexts What I love most about Derek's approach is how he translates complex psychological concepts into actionable strategies you can use in your very next client meeting. Whether you're conducting discovery meetings or helping clients through major life transitions, you'll walk away with new tools to deepen client relationships. Episode 17 is out now! Listen wherever you get your podcasts. And remember - finances don’t have feelings, but your clients do?? #FinancialPlanning #BehavioralFinance #MotivationalInterviewing #ClientCommunication #PlanningAndBeyond
